people here illegally

While avoiding the political aspects of that issue, I will share this - I listened to a podcast about the plight of restaurant owners in NYC and one of them was relating a big issue they have with "undocumented workers" (to use the PC term). - they cannot get unemployment. So they know if they lay them off, they are without any income at all. Out of a concern for them as human beings, they keep them working, helping with carryout, curbside, delivery, etc. which means they keep riding the subways to work every day. And because they don't have benefits and are low paid, they are highly unlikely to keep themselves quarantined if they do become sick. They're going to just keep coming to work, riding the subway unless and until they become too sick to work.

So it's a big problem if you have a lot of people living in your city who fit that category of worker - and I'm sure restaurants aren't the only employers of UW.

We decided not to let hard core prisoners out of jail here but they did let out prisoners who were not a physical threat to society and only had a few months left to serve. More of us have guns here now and if these jerks pull any tricks out here now they may get shot as are they going to arrest them to just let them out again?

Anybody looked at the CDC website lately? Updated COVID-19 deaths are listed at 37K as of this morning. That's 30K COVID deaths that suddenly disappeared.

The Oregon governor just locked down the state until July 6 - with something like 100 deaths state wide. There's literally no way "science" supports that move.

We are still showing cases and some new deaths each day and we are slowly opening things here.
To view what your state is doing click on this link: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/30/cor...stay-at-home-orders-reopening-businesses.html

Washington
  • Washington Gov. Jay Inslee issued a stay-at-home proclamation on March 23 telling residents to “stay home, stay healthy.”
  • “The less time we spend in public, the more lives we will save,” Inslee said in a statement.
  • The statewide order also included the closure of nonessential businesses.
  • Violation of Inslee’s stay-at-home order could be classified as a gross misdemeanor and result in a $5,000 fine and up to 364 days in jail, according to the order.
  • Schools remain closed in Washington through the end of the academic year.
Reopening Plan:
  • Washington is part of the Western States Pact working to establish a regional recovery.
  • Inslee announced April 24 that he will be lifting some restrictions on outdoor recreation.
  • Starting May 5, people will be allowed to fish and hunt, as well as visit state parks and state public lands managed by the Department of Natural Resources.
  • Public gatherings, events, team sports and camping will not be resuming at that time.
  • Inslee has not released an extensive plan regarding the reopening of businesses.

I hate to bring up politics, but I think this whole thing has gotten a bit too political. I think either the power has gone to their heads or they figure the longer they can stretch this out the more (they hope) it will hurt Trump. Look at Michigan's governor, she didn't like people protesting, so she treated them like little kids and punished them with even longer restrictions. That'll teach them...do as you're told and shut up...I'm in charge!

I think there's no question it's become a political battle. And please don't think I'm discounting how serious this virus has been for many many people. I recognize that when we talk "numbers" we're talking real people who have died, and that's truly tragic.

But when the major news outlets are saying "the CDC reports 67K have died of Covid" and the CDCs own website says it's 37K, that makes you wonder. I think we are smart enough to hear "we've got 37K CONFIRMED cases, but the number could rise" if that's what the true story is. But when people's lives are being completely turned upside down by the number of cases, they owe it to us to get the right numbers out there. And someone please tell me - how hard is it to count and report in this age of computers?

This is the headline from today's Chicago Tribune. To me "confirmed" means CONFIRMED. How can IL be reporting 2,618 "confirmed" cases when the CDS says there are only 1,219?

Yeah, you gotta respect Dr. Fauci, but I'm getting tired, as many are, of the one sidedness (medical) and the one size fits all additude. Many areas were hardly affected, yet everyone was told they must stay home. There was no thought on how this stay at home mandate would affect many in so many other ways. Financially, mentally, etc.

So-called "elective surgeries " were banned. I wonder how many will die because they didn't get a symptom checked or didn't go for their routine checkup or screening?

Look at Sweeden. They did the opposite. They chose to trust their people to social distance themselves and the more vulnerable to stay home.

My March 25th Mohs surgery for skin cancer on my scalp was canceled. I'm very hopeful it'll be rescheduled in May.

Yesterday was sunny and 81 :) We opened the pool and had our first cook out! Cooler weather and rain moved in today, so I've returned to some indoor projects.

My Mom is returning to her home Tuesday. She's been with us for 4 weeks and it's made the time more enjoyable!

I read a report today that there are estimates that 130 million people may die worldwide - not of the virus, but of starvation. Many countries rely on the developed world to feed people. The collapse of our economy means the food will be used here instead of around the world if this continues much longer.

Policy making can't be summed up with "if we save one life, it's worth it". There are ripple effects to every decision we make.

But Andrew Cuomo has the solution for anyone who's concerned that they aren't able to work... just get yourself a job as an essential worker. Problem solved.
Don't get me started . We all see this is a lot more then just a virus. Here's what is going to hurt this country in a big way. People who are use to working hard who work every day. They have been home for a month or two and they are digging it . They are going to the unemployment office line ONLINE. They are getting handed money to stay home and when there employer does call to go back to work they are refusing, I have `13 more weeks i can collect i'm tired of working and paying for others to stay home. If we don't go back to work and i mean yesterday it's going to get beyond ugly.

I'm lucky I'm retired and so far not affected financially.
I called some people I used to work with in New York City and they are home getting $504 a week state unemployment and $600 a week from the Federal Government. They figure why rush back to work when you can sit home and collect over $1100 a week for doing nothing? And these are hard working people. What do you think the lazy people are going to do?

We are enjoying our own house and run over to check on our new old boat. The red line.

We have had bad storms, winds, flooding. Came over yesterday, beautiful day, then horrendous storms last night, under flash flood warnings. But today sun will be out. Then storms again for the rest of the week and cold again, like March temps.

They can open the entire country, which they will eventually, we are going to treat the country as one huge germ until there is a vaccine.
Refuse to die due to this bug.

Yeah, we've had an awful amount of rain lately here in PA. We've finally had a couple nice days and we're itching to get our boat out of the garage. Can't wait to get on the water and breathe in fresh mountain lake air.

When this begins to level out somewhat, I can envision a repeat of what happened after 9/11 when there was a big exodus of people moving out of New York City. We had a lot of people move here (northeastern PA) escaping the horror of 9/11. It took a few + years for some of them to move back, realizing that latch key children, living too far from work and family was not for them.

I'm still alive and well that God but can't say they same for some people in nearby Brooks Alberta where they have a bad outbreak there... Now some people afraid to come to work and so I am getting a extra hours at work. I am no longer afraid and maybe should be, but spring is here and I am so excited and happy. Birds are singing and ponds look great. Favorite time of the year. Fresh green leaves just popping out and air is fresh and smells clean after last night rain.
