@GBBUDD SHOULD be building ponds for a living and teaching the young pups how it's meant to be done. I've seen "professional" ponds that are put to shame by his first time DIY paradise.

` I'll send you the check this afternoon. @Lisak1 Thankyou
In truth, the story never ends. I am always out in nature and always looking for natures art work or how it can compliment mine.

End of the summer year 5 for the pond. The last hurrah sorta speak. The plants are begining to go dormant their leaves are turning yellows and browns with the touch of green still hanging out a pallet of color.
The fish start getting pretty dopey as they try to catch their food as it floats by. It's obvious the cooler temps effects them mentally.
Not sure what the water temp is if I had to guess I'd say high 50 or low 60s.
The beauty the changing of the seasons here in New England.

I believe I’ve figured out the latitude of your garden pond. Based on the time showing on the sundial and the length of the shadows from the trees- using a slide rule and an old Texas instruments digital calculator- I should be within a fraction of a degree. The longitude is a bit harder to figure out. But my plan is to walk the entire latitude across Connecticut until I find it. You’ve heard of climate refugees. In this case it’s paradise refugees. If you notice a strange looking man pretending to be a garden gnome somewhere near the pond, please ignore him.

`We allow all forms of life around the pond until we don't. When they out stay their welcome and start ripping the pond apart. Right now its a squirrel that's pushing his luck. A have a heart TRAP does the trick with him .
Thinking a snare would work better for half pints.

I honest to god just told my husband if that squirrel doesn't find himself somewhere else to dig it's gonna be like the showdown at the OK Corral - me against old fluffy tail.

I'm with your fish though @GBBUDD - this weather definitely affects my brain! Sloooooooowing way down!

No squirrels here, but yesterday I looked up from my morning coffee cup to see a rock hyrax sitting on the garden wall, not far from the pond. If you've never seen one of these guys, here's a short video of what they look like:

These guys post lookouts, so if you see one sitting there watching you, you know there are more of them. Sure enough, one was climbing over what remains of the back garden fence and another was clambering around in the trees. I tried to get a photo, but as soon as I got up, the lookout gave a whistle and they all vanished down the hillside.

I heard them just outside the garden a few times during the day, but it wasn't until late afternoon that I discovered what they'd been up to: a potted brugmansia near the back garden wall had been completely denuded of leaves. I could have warned them that brugmansia is deadly poisonous, but I have a feeling they were after it for its hallucinogenic properties.

I don't see any around now, so I'm not sure whether they died of the stuff, or lying around their dens tripping out on a brugmansia high. Not rock hyraxes, but stoned hyraxes!

I would think if poisonous the critter would know not to eat.
I have a plant, beautyberry, pretty purple fruit. The birds wait to eat until it is fermented, later in winter.

Wow! I learned something new today - I've literally never heard of nor seen a rock hyrax! What an interesting animal.
