Turns out the Martin family, just a few months prior to the criminal court case, won a $1 million law suit against the Home Owner Association for the wrongful death, which was a bit odd. Also, I imagine they receive all sorts of money from charity.

FBI and other federal authorities, prior to the criminal court case, did quite exhaustive investigation and found there were zero civil rights violated that lead to the act of the murder.

So now, sounds like the Martin family is going to have a civil case sue the Zim family for the kid's wrongful death, which will be very tough to prove now since the criminal court case proves Zim acted in self defense. So, the civil case might likely only aim for the charity money given to the Zim family for his defense fund and any potential future well being.

Guns don't kill people, criminals do.

Everyone should carry! Me and my lovely sister :)

I was told be an attorney friend of mine that in the state of Florida if a person is found not guilty in a criminal case, then a civil suit cannot be brought up. The only chance of another trial of any kind is via a fed civil rights trial and I do believe Mr. Zimmerman has a good case that his civil rights were violated. ;)

I am surprised the Home Owner Association paid anything. I bet it was a settlement so it would not be taken to court, which seems what folk do nowadays.

Obvious, my previous post in reply to Pecan has me agreeing with Pecan as well. I am not surprised you did not catch this obvious statement.

Ok CdnJCR, tell me how enforcing a restrictive gun ban, such as described by Wayne below, will prevent the formation of blackmarket gun shows for criminals in the States.
Yeah I am not surprised your always right or change the discussion. Ok so speeding laws don't stop those that want to speed, etc. no laws of any kind required. Where did I suggest a restrictive gun ban, my whole point was lots of states in the USA don't have restrictive gun laws, so why blame the porous borders as the reason you have illegal guns used in crime.

And have you also noted that those states have the lowest crime rates??? Only gun free zones have mass shootings??? Chicago with the most restrictive gun laws has the most gun crime.

I see a pattern... But again, I don't care how Canadians handle firearms crimes, laws etc. It is none of my business and I would hope they feel the same about us. We should all worry about getting our own houses in order.

I am not surprised you think I am the only one that thinks that is right.

I'm not only blaming the porous borders, but it is a quite obvious concern that does help create the blackmarkets in the States. Restrictive gun bans only disarms, or make it very difficult for defense of, law abiding citizens against the crazies and criminals. Once the crazies and criminals are entirely neutralized, then I will be perfectly fine with restrictive gun bans.

A lot of people don't understand that our right to bear arms is a God given right. Not a right the government has given us.

Our founding fathers knew what an oppressive government was like and found it very important to list out the rights we are born with that the federal government CANNOT take away from us.

The Constitution is not a document listing what we can do, it is a document listing what the government cannot do.

The Black Mafia? lol. Sorry no one left as they are getting wasted in the ghettos along with innocent people just the way you like it.
Answer me this one question. It is not like anyone has imprisoned anyone in the ghetto. Why not leave ? And don't give me any crap about the cost of moving. Single people at least can move simply by walking.

No way Charles $1 million? First I heard of this, was it paid or appealed? Why hasn't that info come out in the 100's of hours of TV regarding this case?

Not for sure, but I bet it was paid. Heard of it from a news anchor a few minutes prior to when I posted it. It sounds like a settlement payment.

To my American friends, talking about your gun laws is like when I talk to my koi, I get nothing back worth hearing lol. I'm leaving it at that, I do not have anymore time to debate this. Keep your guns and I'll keep mine.

I was in a bank when some morons decided to rob it. HE shouted get down as one went to the counter for the money. HE pumped the shoutgun to show he was serious and then they were gone. I often day dreamed if I had a concealed handgun I could have shot the creep and ran outside and shoot the car tires of the get away vehicle or them if they resisted. I'd be a hero sitting in jail or dead lol.
