I'm really puzzled as we've had a pond for a number of years and this has never happened! I have had three fairly large dead toads in my pond in the past 8 or 9 days. One was two days ago and I just walked outside and there was another one. I have a ton of tadpoles in my pod and tiny froglets hoping around the ground. I also had a long time larger fish die two days ago and another smaller fish a week or so ago. I tested my water and everything is the same except my KH is much lower than normal which I'm going to guess is because we have had a lot of rain for about three days in a row but nice and sunny for the past two. Could all the rain possibly have anything to do with any of this? I'm in Houston Texas if that info is necessary.

I can't imagine rain being the cause. Maybe a predator? Cats tend to kill things rather than eat them, so it could be a possibility.

That is awesome CountryEscape!!! i wish i got to see them.

I just got back from my week away today.. straight out into the garden to check my pond and look what I found:

I now have 3. This one is smaller, and is pretty much always followed by one of the biggers. Although Im pretty sure it would take longer than a week to grow wouldn't it? Only thing is if they had already spawned earlier, somewhere else that I didn't no! Very excited for nice weather and more to come.
The frog is still in that same bush. It is alive, doesn't go away from it for long, but can't see any frog spawn.

Woohoo, multiple newts, Mr-Pond!!! See, you have newts, I have bullfrogs. We need to do some trading and share with each other. LOL Wait, I don't think that's allowed overseas. Ho hum ....
Gardenlady, the toads are likely dying because they do into the pond to lay lots and lots of eggs, but if they can't climb back out, they will drown. Put a stick or two over the edge, so they can climb back out. Not sure about your fish dying issue, though.
As far as the "froglets" you are seeing hopping around, those are probably not babies, they are peepers or some other type of small frog. I have them and some of them tend to never go into the pond, they love the foliage around the pond instead. I have Northern Cricket Frogs and peepers here this year, besides the bullfrogs. So far only one bullfrog at a time, except once I spotted two in the bog, both hopped into the pond when the spotted me!

Toads were singing up a storm in the pond tonight, so got my camera out to record the sound. Then, while it was uploading to YouTube, I learned that it's evidently the Fowler's Toad! Learned something new tonight. Here's the video, which is mainly for the sounds, not really for the video. :)

Haha! we should definately try work out some way of doing trade. I've never even seen mine open their mouth let alone make noises like in your video.

We had great sun today so I just sat watching the pond as the Newts popped up and down.

My tadpoles from the other pond are starting to get quite big now. I though i saw the start of shoots for legs on one today. How is every one elses going? Have you seen any frogs about yet?
Whilst i was away we happened to find 2 tiny frogs living in the drains! looked down a manhole drain an they were siting in the pipes.. i shall find the pic sometime.

Toads are just in the romancing cycle here, so eggs will appear soon, then tiny toad tadpoles, then hopefully tiny baby toads. I think something eats the babies before they become toads, though, as I've never seen a baby toad. Have lots of places for them to crawl out, too, so maybe I'm just not at the right place at the right time. Frogs on my farm pond out in the pasture have been singing up a storm for the last week or two, so will be eggs out there, and probably tadpoles soon. I don't even bring any to my ponds, as they hop on over all by themselves. Painted turtles are also welcome, they come and go frequently, sometime one will stay for a month or so, but usually only a few days. Snapping turtles are NOT welcome, though. So far, none have shown up on my backyard ponds, only two very tiny infants in the skimmer. I relocated them.

This very green young bullfrog is always on top of the lily pads in the goldfish pond, same end, every morning and evening. He blends in well with the green of the pad.

Then these bullfrogs are residents to the deep pool at the bottom of the waterfall on the koi pond, just before it overflows into the pond. They are much more brown in color. This was the first time I noticed more than one in there. Two in this pic, and there was another one but it was mostly hidden behind the mini cattail plant. Hoping for some tadpoles in that area, smart enough ones to not go over the waterfall into the koi mouths!

And, this little painted turtle showed up yesterday morning, and was here this morning still. I had a little bit bigger one last weekend, but it only stayed a day, then didn't see it again. This little guy is the same size as the one that came first year, and stayed a month. This guy is not afraid of me, comes close when I'm feeding the koi, and I toss some his way, after I feed the koi, so he gets a chance to eat some.

great froggy pictures!

A little out of focus, these guys are under 1/2 inch in size. They are in one of the preforms, slow warm water = some nice floating algae the tads, frogs, bees, dragonflies all love. I have hundreds of these small . think either the toads or the spring peepers. Can't tell until they hop out of the water.
