He almost looks like a rock. Mine have been quiet lately. Think they didn't like the mean storm that came here yesterday and hailed on them, ouch :(

I have just never seen newts, Mr. Pond, so that's why I wondered where you lived! Wayyy across the pond. LOL I've not heard bullfrogs, peepers, anything for the last week or more, temps went really chilly. But, now this week, much warmer again, in the 70s and 80's. Storms last night missed me, thankfully. Lots of very large hail in the area. I heard CO had so much hail, the major airport had to use plows to remove it! Holy cow, that's a BUNCH! Sorry you got hail, JW, hope everything is ok by you.

Well if it makes you feel any better, i have never seen a Bullfrog, never heard one.

The sad thing about UK is there is isnt the same kind of variety i dont think. In generaly, theres amazing scenes and animals but there just not around here..

Im currently having a lightining storm.. hope mine are all ok. I do have newt spawn, have located it in the plant.

Soooo cool, I would love to see newt spawn, or better yet, babies when they hatch! I've always wanted to get a bullfrog on video or at least record his voice when he croaks on my ponds, since they are just past my back deck. However, when they croak, it's short and sweet, and any movement will make them stop. Then, it's anywhere from a minute to 30 minutes before the next "song", so very hard to catch it to record. I have not heard them for over a week. Temps got really chilly last weekend, then warmed up this week. Last night was below 60F again, but supposed to be warmer today and tomorrow again. Saw a tiny peeper when re-working the stream Friday afternoon, so hoping there are more of them, and they start singing soon, too.

Oh, and I figured out it is NOT the aluminum bottom of my hummingbird feeder that is causing the water to turn orange, it's my water! It's softened water, so have no idea why it would turn orange, but noticed my fountain on the deck (no pump running on it) also has orange water, so it must be just the nutrients in the water that is causing it. So, filled the feeder again, and it took about 4 days before it turned orange, so will change it each time it turns colors, just so I know it's fresh. :) Temps are not that warm to spoil it that fast ... yet. And, to test my theory, I just filled it with bottled water, so will see if bottled water and sugar change colors, too. If they do, then I will assume there is some leeching from the aluminum.

Your pond water isn't turning orange is it? Wonder if you have a lot of iron in your water or do you have metal or pvc pipes through your house? Metal ones can rust after time. So only your house water is softened w/ chemicals right? And pond water comes right from well and is not softened?

I'm not sure it's the water, or maybe a combination of sunshine and whatever is in my water. House water is softened, and I had plumber add new outside hose bib BEFORE the water softener, so yes, the ponds are filled with just well water. I have all PVC or copper water lines, so it's not the pipes, or I wouldn't think it would be. I will know more after a few days, see if the bottled water changes color. No, my ponds are not orange, so I agree with you, probably just some type of algae growing.
I know this is for frogs, but this toad thought he should be included. After all, he's a frog's cousin, right?! ;)

I just noticed yesterday that I have 2 frogs in my bathtub pond.........................wondering now if they moved from the big pond when I removed the floating plant ring they used to like to sit near? I may have to set them up a little floating apartment in that area and maybe they will move in again :)

I hope i get to see them grow. Im not at home for a week so just hoping nothing happens to it all while no ones around.

I think i should set you the challenge to capture it as I have never heard one or seen one.

Our weather has been cold and wet again.. not sure temp. Although thats probably good whilst i havent been there.. the pond should stayed filled at least!
