Mucky, awesome video! Just goes to show if you take the time, they are trainable. My bullfrogs watch me, waiting for a grasshopper to get tossed in or this past weekend grubs. I don't do anything to hinder the grasshopper. I figured if they can get to a lily pad and jump out, they are safe. I secretly hope the frogs get them before they get out, though. I think your frogs were wanting to be the first to get your treats! Was funny how you put one in "time out", since it got too moody.

Oh yeah, the turtle was awesome. Reminded me of a little guy that came to my pond the first year. Have seen at least one painted turtle each and every year, sometimes there are 2 in the ponds. Thank goodness no snappers have been seen in either pond yet ... except a couple of infants just hatched in the fall 2 years ago, rescued from the skimmer, and put back in the farm pond. Told them not to come back, too! LOL

OMG, you guys have me wanting to pet my frogs, too! Hmm ... maybe too late this year, but that will have to be on my list of attempted things next year. JB, is your pond indoors? I think Mucky's is .... loved the videos!!!

Nope, its outdoors

My Green Frog doesn't mind me at all. It was the first frog to show up so its gotten used to me over the summer. Usually the Bull Frog jumps if I get too close, but it was pretty cold that night so maybe it was frozen :cold: haha...
& my young Green & Bull Frogs are still too new to trust me enough.

My sister is in WI, she and her husband just moved back there from AZ. She dug a pond and yesterday she was so excited about a fat toad that was in her window well. The things we enjoy when we have a pond. :blueflower:

Oh yeah, at least in my area there are tons of toads. I think my frogs have given up on the weather and gone into hibernation. Haven't seen them in nearly 2 weeks now. hoping they come out alive next spring. anyone got tips on the best way to keep frogs alive throughout winter? I've got a bunch of Hornwort I put on the bottom for them to burrow in, and I'm sure theres a layer of muck built up down there by now.

That should work well, JB. When I cleaned out my Skippy this spring, there were several frogs that had gotten down into the batting in there, and I found several in the muck when I netted the bottom, too. Not sure where they would go in a natural farm pond, but mine always come back. Either the ones in my pond survive, or I get new ones from my farm pond. Good luck!

Hard to see because my camera somehow focused on the surface of the water, but here is one of my Green Frogs sitting on a step of my pond next to a leaf. Nervous for my four frogs but hopefully in about 4 months they all come out alive, especially this one, because it was the first frog to show up at my pond!

They should be fine. They have a way of finding where to live. I just had 5 jump into the pond yesterday, almost 60, today below 30, ice on the pond, did not see any frogs jumping in.

Do you guys know a way of opening a whole in the ice other than with a de-icer? I may go that route but ideally if I can do something cheaper, I will.
