Betta, actually that teal bin is a stacking shelf unit that I use on the bottom of my ponds, turn them upside down, they are like a garage for the fish to go into and hide, and water flows through them. Great for putting a lily pot on in the middle of the pond. I have it out as it used to have a pot on it, but the pot fell to the bottom, and liked it better there! Need to put it away ....
JW, I read someone posted today that the number of frogs today is supposed to be how many snows this winter! I said I sure hope not, because at any given time, I can count a dozen bullfrogs in each of my 2 ponds ... and if toads are included, I'm doomed. Never remember seeing so many tiny toads in the yard. I stop constantly when I'm mowing around bushes and trees. The toads love newly mulched area, easy to dig in and stay cooler, I guess.

Well shut my mouth,no sooner did I speak about not having hardly any frogs and I went out and there were three big ones in the main pond and 2 in the bath tub pond. I usually only see one whenever I go out there.
For some reason this evening there are tons of little flying bugs all over everywhere. They look like midget flies. Bet that's why all the frogs are showing their mugs

Some how all the tadpoles I got from my friend's house all dissapear... They were all in my small nature pond with no fish in it. I have a little fountain in it and now I wonder if the water too rough for the little taddies? :(

I have both a water cascade and a fountain in my pond and it never bothered the hundreds of Fowler's Toads tadpoles I get each spring. If you have dragonfly or damselfly larva in the pond they will eat tadpoles, and if the tadpoles morph and then can't get out of the pond they'll eventually die.
If you had one of these or its relatives drop in that may be where the tadpoles ended up. One thing I've wondered is can tadpoles get trapped in dense string algae and not be able to get out. Most toad tadpoles, including the Fowlers don't eat algae and thus can't just eat their way out. Big tadpoles will eat small tadpoles, as I observed this spring big tadpoles will eat freshly laid toad eggs. They'll work their way along a chain of eggs until almost none are left.

hmm... I dont think I have a problem with birds or predators. I dont have string algae too. There are plenty of room for them to go.. but after reading your post I think may be my taddies got stuck under rocks and coulnt come out. I have rocks in the middle of my pond (river rocks) that make lots of hiding place.. may be they just went in there and couldnt get out :S

WTH MUCKY?.... its just got to be so humiliating, the way you exploit those frogs for forum entertainment!! lol
LOL They really seem to enjoy the attention. Sometimes when we sit on the edge of the pond they will literally jump out of the pond and sit down beside you. Half the time we don't have any food on hand to feed them, so we'll just pet them a little and they seem to be happy with that. :dunno:
Now if I could only get them to roll over and let me rub their tummy's, that would make a GREAT! video.
