Here is one of the 3 bigger bullfrogs on my pond.
Bullfrog and whale .JPG
Today, at one point, the koi pond had this guy, another pretty good sized bullfrog, and 10 or so smaller ones (about 2-3" long). The goldfish pond has at least that many smaller guys, too. A month ago, not a frog to be found on either pond. In April, I had a bunch of big ones on both ponds. Not sure what happened in the middle! I tossed in a small grasshopper when friends stopped by, they could not believe a frog would go after it, but I hit the water about 6" in front of the little guy and he snatched it up. You should have heard my friends laugh. They really got a kick out of that. Free entertainment, that's what I like. :blueflower:

Today I watched my Bull Frog eat a huge black wasp. I was surprised it would go after a wasp, especially one of that size... it was pretty entertaining! :cheerful:

Sheesh, Mucky did he ever get that thing swallowed?
Actually, no. :disappointed_anim: After about 15 minutes of twisting and contorting trying to swallow it he ended up jumping in the water and spat it out.
However, I'll bet that Caterpillar had a good look at what the frog had for dinner last night.

Mucky, For the first part, I actually was more interested in the background where the frog was chased by two koi and it went up the liily pad :)

Anyway, my goldfish got some good snack yesterday. I decided to give them the 30+ unknown specie tadpoles, and they are very very happy :) This morning all the fish still acting fine so I guess the tadpoles are not poisonious :D I kept 4, just want to see how they develop and want to know what they are. if they are Cuban i'll just put them in the freezer.

I heard that fish will eat frog tadpoles, but not the toad taddies. Last year I had hundreds of the toad taddies, but never did see any tiny baby toads. This year, saw no toad eggs or tadpoles, but there are gobs of them in the grass all around my yard. Go figure .... Evidently the toad tadpoles have a bad taste, and the fish and so forth leave them alone. I wonder about the turtles, though, as I had a couple of painted turtles that came to my goldfish pond last year not long after the tadpoles hatched. There were bunch for a few days, then none.

I had a large frog jump into the turtle pond a few weeks back. All I found of him were his bones, picked clean! These are four large RES, but I imagine most turtles like frog legs.

When I went outside tonight to shut off the water to the goldfish pond, I had a flashlight, and spotted these two bullfrogs on the edge. Wonder if the small amount of light given off by the spots on the solar frog on the ledge in between them attracts bugs at night.

Here they are close up. Check out the colors of their eyes with the flash! Pretty cool, I thought. :blueflower:

My Green Frog has finally been using the log I have next to my stream for some shelter. I've seen it there 3 times in the last week.

on a side note I'm a little worried about my Bull Frog. It keeps wandering about 30ft., across my patio and over onto the driveway at night. I'd hate to find a flattened frog =/

Toads and frogs tend to be in the middle of the country roads at night, great hunting spots when a car drives by ... as long as they stay out of the way of the wheels!
I have so many small bullfrogs on my ponds, pretty easy to get a pic with numerous frogs. These were all on the outer rock wall of the goldfish pond. They are usually pretty skittish, if one jumps they all jump, but that morning they stayed put for the camera.

Then I was standing on the lower deck railing, checking out the koi, and looked straight down and spotted this big guy.

Here's from behind the railing I was standing on, so you can see he was just about 2' in front of and 2' below the railing. He's getting quite brave! Might be the grasshoppers I keep tossing in to him. He's getting better at getting them before they get away, too.

And, last but not least, I still have a small painted turtle, he's been back in the koi pond for the last couple of weeks. He's about 4-5" long, and here he is peeking out from the lilies, with a couple of the smaller bullfrogs joining him. :blueflower:
