How cute is THAT! I've seen toad houses, but never a frog house. Very cute the way it's made, looks like it has metal roofing, love the design. Now, put up a "Welcome frogs" sign, but of course only in a language the frogs can read, and not cats. :) Good luck! When I watered tonight, I chased a couple of large toads from their "hole" next to the base of some plants.

That's a neat frog house. Hope they like it and can escape from the cat!

I saw this and had to photograph it ... lilies are bunching up, too little space for the leaves, so I moved some of the pots around a couple of nights ago, but this was taken before that. How many frogs?

Then tonight, it was at dusk, so the pic is really poor quality, but you can see the spots on this baby frog. I'm not sure if it's a bullfrog, or maybe a baby leopard frog? I was zoomed in pretty far, figured he would jump, and I was in the middle of acclimating fish for the pond, so didn't take too much time. He was on a lily pad but by the time I got the camera, he had jumped in. Anyone know what it is? Right now, he's only maybe 2" long, no more, probably less.

Oh my goodness! Over the winter I lost all my fish due to a circuit breaker malfunction. Do to the fact that I have no fish to eat the eggs or babies, I have tons of tadpoles in a variety of maturity levels! Don't know what to do when they become frogs.

I'd say wait and see, mheiderscheit, as nature will take care of most of them. You may get some fascinating predators showing up (raccoons, opossums, herons, etc.) depending on your location (country, city, etc.). Either way, don't worry, you won't be overrun with frogs. And, if you have more than an abundance of frogs, you will have less bugs in your yard for sure! My bullfrogs do a great job of keeping any mosquito larvae killed off, and they must be keeping the adults away, as given this hot year, I have yet to get a mosquito bite, and that's totally unheard of in mid-Illinois. It must have something to do with the drought we have had and the hotter than normal temps in June and now July. I'm loving it! Good luck with your tadpoles. Take pics and share, we'd love to see them!

We get thousands of eggs, tons of tads, so far not overrun with frogs.

Haha, while walking around ponds this morning, Tarzan, my cat, had a locust in his mouth. Since he was going to kill it, I figured it should go as food, so swapped it from him for some nice petting, and he was good to go. Tossed it into the bog, hoping to lure Bully, my biggest bullfrog. But, Bully wasn't fast enough. This much smaller bullfrog, maybe half the size of full grown, jumped on the locust and I wondered how he was going to be able to eat it! Well, by the looks of this picture, he's having a hard time of it. LOL
Open wide ... just gave him a locust.JPG
I spotted him shortly after his meal, and about ever 30 seconds or so, he would open his mouth like this. Not sure if the locust is flapping it's wings in his belly, or it's just too much for him to swallow, but he never did belch it back up.

We recently tiled the ledge of our pond with some nice marble tile, and it seems the frogs really like it because as soon as it's cool enough for them to do so they come out and sit on it. Often the two biggest frogs will sit one at either end, like little Guardians of the pond. But the smaller ones are are catching on and finding ways to get past the big ones, who'll often chase them away.
Anyway, with them hanging out there all the time I can't resist having a little fun with them. With all the food I have been giving them I have earned the right to pester them a bit.

I FINALLY got to watch the video all the way through. What a hoot!!! That's so neat how the frogs and turtles eat from your hands. I have a baby turtle, he loves my koi food, and he has learned that I will toss it in the area where he is, in the lilies, and keep the koi busy long enough for him to get his fill. And, he eats a LOT! Growing baby, I guess.
Thanks for the video.
There are about 10 baby bullfrogs that have shown up in the koi pond, and a few in the goldfish pond, but I sure never saw any tadpoles. Wonder if that's what the bigger turtle was going after in the bog last week! This little guy is only about 1" long.

Bully, once again, always ready for the photo op. He's such a ham! He loves to go after bugs on the purple flowers behind him. Was watching lots of frog action tonight, jumping on the plants in the bog, looking for meals.

That's a fine looking bullfrog CE, I wish I had some frogs that had those nice green colors, but a bullfrog would be, or would get to be, too big for my small pond. That's one reason I don't really want any koi, that and I know what big koi do to plants.
About the tadpoles, yes they are a favorite snack for turtles, I can't keep tadpole in my pond either with the turtles, nor do any of my fish fry survive to adults. In fact the turtles love to spend all day browsing around looking for, and eating, the fish eggs, so we seldom ever see any fry at all, although I had about 50 that survived by accident in my little greenhouse pond which I caught and released into the main pond and probably became turtle food, because I haven't seen them since.
