SE, maybe it was their froggy version of going to an amusement park! If only we could understand their voices. :) Hope all went well for you during that storm. Sounds awful, and seems like east coast got hit really bad with power outages. Glad all is well with your area.

I usually don't intervene with their nightly forays into the courtyard patio, but I do try and get them all picked up in the morning. I have missed them a couple times and found them later in the day, by then they are starting to look a pretty dehydrated.

It's one thing to jump 24" horizontally, they could do that easily, but to jump that vertically is something else. I have chased them around the courtyard a bit when catching them, so they have had lots of opportunities to make the 18" jump to the safety of the pond and a clean getaway, but they've never come close to even trying.
I think I might start putting some kind of ramp out there for them to use, so if we ever go away for a few days maybe they'll know how to use it by then.

You need to get yourself the forgLog..

LOL, were those critters paid to act as xtras?

Seriously, a ramp is a good idea; for your amphibians (and rodents) and to keep carcassas out of your pond!

Thanks Taherman, that Froglog looks like it would be a great idea for pools or some ponds, but what I need is a reverse froglog.
It's easy for my frogs to get out of the pond, it's getting back in that presents the problem because of the 18" raised ledge. Probably all I need is to lay a board on a 45 deg angle against the ledge, they should have no trouble figuring it out.

Yeah I was figuring you could do it reverse. All they need is something to climb up on.

DH was able to get a pretty good shot of Bully onn the float then Bully in the water and GW on a float and the rail of the pond yesterday. Initially she was on the rail of the pond/pool. Then as DH got close, she jumped in the water. A while later she decided to float! I have no idea if Bully knows she is there or not. You can see that Bully is quite large as he is tipping the float! To refresh your memories, GW was the BullFrog I rescued outside of our local GoodWill Store...hence the name GW.

Shoestring, cool frog pics! Yes, looks like your Bully is quite hefty! My "Bully" (guess we are not very creative with our bullfrog names LOL) is the largest in my pond, too. Last year I had several of them named, when I could tell who was who. This year, too many medium and small sized bullfrogs, just Bully is the largest and marked really different, although a couple of the small ones have the same markings ... maybe his/her offspring.

I like all your bullfrog Bully's SP and CE and those are cute pix Sp! I would be afraid they would gobble up my fish as I remember some saying they can eat a bird even!

JW I don't blame you. I hve yet to see any of them eat a fish, but that is not to say they have not. I am only hoping they keep down the fry population...tht way, I do not have that may fry and some still make it. I cannot tell you how many "phantom fish" we currently have. We dubbed the older fry as phantom fish as we had no idea where they came from the second season of our pool convert. We opened it in the Spring and there are these dark fish. Thought they may have been brought in by birds. The then went "to the Google!" and found out most goldfish fry are dark in color and eventually change to their various patterssnades. So now, I sort of welcome the BullFrogs as they keep down the fry population and that is ok by me! Here is another one of GW, she needs to work on some of the fry...she is soooo skinny! ;)

Yep that's how those little tiny goldfish start out, all dark like that. I have some that are still dark and it's been 3 or 4yrs. Wonder if they will ever change to gold? Your GW froggy looks all nice and comfy floating in his pool plant floating ring. I went out to my bath tub pond today and my 2 little brown frogs were in there just looking up at me. They don't jump away from me so much anymore. That pond is where I have my 5 little Shubunkins that are in quarantine for a bit more so they can fatten up before I put them in the big pond w/ the bigger goldies. I just had to go out right now and take a picture of my two frogs so I could post them up here again. Okay I'm back. The first one is the bigger one and the second is a bit smaller and a lighter color:
