Neat Frogs Country Escape! Love your Bully and it is pretty cool it is getting tame. We have yet to have a tame BullFrog in our pond. If any are floating in the middle, if it sees me, is ducks underwater...especially if I get close to the pond. It watches me from the other side if I feed the fish. Silly frog, we have even bought mealworms to feed the frogs. We have only had one Green Frog that was somewhat tame that ate the mealworms. Aren't the Cricket Frogs neat? Do you hear it calling at all? Reminds me of those kinetic balls, click, click, clickclickclick.

Well, Shoestring, now that it's really hot again, windows are closed, so I don't even hear the frogs. I like it better with windows open to listen to them at night. Love the sound of all of the frogs.
I guess I'm really lucky about the frogs, not sure why they are all so friendly, and probably 50% of the frogs are not afraid at all. One I nick named Smiley, in the goldfish pond, will sit there while I move the lily pad he is sitting on! It's unreal. No fear whatsoever. Now, don't get me wrong, I do have frogs that jump before I spot them, but I tend to go to the same part of the pond at certain times of the day, like a.m. for feeding the fish, so they have gotten used to me, plus there is just me. No kids or spouse. I do have dogs, but they don't bother the frogs. One of my cats almost caught one tonight, but it got into the pond. The frog I call Bully is so differently marked than any of the others. I've posted close ups of him sitting on a lily pad, and he's real blotchy brown and lime green colored. Really unique, so I hope he doesn't get killed. :)

Hi everyone .. Have you ever had a issue with your koi or goldfish killing frogs in your pond ?? This past week I've fished out 2 partially eaten tree frog bodies , the first one we caught the fish actually eating 'at' the body , the second found on the bottom of the pond early in the morning , when I netted it out had a leg missing??

And I'm not finding a whole lot of frog eggs in the pond either , even after one of their after rain night orgies lol ...Do goldfish and koi eat the frog/toad eggs ... they didn't seem to like them last year??

The 2 big bull frogs that had adopted my 100 gallon pond as a home , left when we pulled it out and built the new one ,, I had hoped they would come back , in spite of how they scared me to death all the time jumping in the pond and into the sedums I have planted next to my deck ... now all I see around my pond are tree frogs and the toads around the landscape lights..

Not sure why, but my leopard frogs are staying out all day long around the new pond. They were sight unseen until nightfall before, now you can find 3 or more at any given time. Some on rocks, some sitting on plants, some swimming. Glad to see them more, they were kind of a pathetic pet only coming out after I went to bed.

Tammy, someone said that fish won't eat toad eggs or tadpoles. I must agree that my goldfish surely didn't, as there were a ton of them in that pond. But, then I had 2 small painted turtles, and I think they feasted on the toad taddies, as I've not yet seen a toad baby.
As far as frog eggs and tadpoles, I'm certain that the koi will eat them, and the larger your koi, the larger the frogs they will eat, if hungry enough. I would think the koi would do more damage to a frog population that the frogs to the koi (eggs and fry) population.
Since I live in the country, have a farm pond on my 6 acre property, I have several type of frogs and lots of toads that have found my pond on their own, turtles, too. Just keep the snappers out of my koi/goldfish ponds, thank you very much! I will relocate any more babies to the farm pond this year again, if they happen to show up this fall.

Was looking at the pond with the new lights and I saw this large gunk buildup on my skimmer. I cursed under my breath and thought, "Should I clean it now, or just wait until tomorrow." The skimmer seemed to be sucking suff in so I decided to leave it, but then I glanced at it again, and the color made me thing it might be a frog even though it was way too tiny to be a frog. But lo and behold, it was a frog.

This is species number 2 for me. I know it's shown up before, what is this guy exactly? He's positively tiny, my skimmer is really small, so he's not near as large as he seems in this picture. Probably just a little bigger than a quarter.

Fish may be dying, but thank god the frogs are thriving.

Awww ... he's cute, Buckry! The toes make me think tree frog of some sort. Color looks like a toad, but definitely not a toad with those sticky toes. Doesn't matter, he's adorable! I only have peeper and cricket frogs in the tiny size category, and he doesn't look like either of them. Congrats on your new "find"!

I believe this is the species that I fished out of a relatives toilet one time. Cutest frog I've ever seen, and he was tinier yet, he was probably small enough to fit on a nickle.
