Rocks Rocks Rocks.
I assumed your rock was going to be lava rock the color is going to be killer in the pond. Here's a couple things while they are not all round thats a good thing to help lock them together. .bad thing is they are not round and appear there some that have a edge can't tell if sharp or not but I would lean toward using a heavier duty underlayment such as 8(oz non woven/needle punched get textile fabric under the liner not because you have rocks but for the strength to keep from sinking into the soils. and inside the pond under the rock to keep those edges from cutting the liner. I'm no expert on Hawaiian rock but I assume its pretty course stuff. Good news you'll have tons of area for bacteria to grow. your post beat me .Rocks Rocks Rocks. View attachment 127363
Under the liner many do use old carpet.A view standing where the waterfall and bog will be looking at the pond. I was told carpet makes a great under lay. View attachment 127364
Yeah the rock here is not nearly as exciting as what you see on the mainland in my opinion. I was going to go all lava as I like the look but I grew more concerned with how sharp it is and damaging the liner and the fish. I will mix it in in a few areas. I have about 2 tons of it.I assumed your rock was going to be lava rock the color is going to be killer in the pond. To be honest with you that deep and size at minimum hand tamping but a jumping jack or a small plate compactor us a must.I was considering filling the pond for a week or two once the liner goes in and before any rock goes in to do a final dirt compaction. Any thoughts on this? I think all the weight and pressure will compact the dirt a bit more and probably better to have that happen without 30 tons of rock in there stressing the liner.
