Hey, Herz, I'll try shoving up some of our 60's temps we are supposed to get here tomorrow up your way! I can't believe how warm this winter has been. The standing joke at my house is that the snow fence I put up, shut down any possibility of getting any snow now this winter. LOL If that's the case, then I'll wait until we get a nice snow (6" would do just fine) and then put it up next year. I dumped out another 2.25" of rain from my rain gauge last weekend, which I still have out and I don't remember EVER having it out past December, much less into February. Just crazy weather. I worry about tons of bugs this coming spring. I know the daffodils and other spring bulb flowers are going to be hard pressed NOT to keep growing in the next couple of days. I just hope they don't get up too far and try to bloom, because I have to believe we will get some winter yet here in IL Time will tell ....
Sissy, I've never heard of fish and turtles being at an animal shelter! Ours would have no idea what to do with them. They would die before they got them adopted out. So, did you adopt the koi fish, or were they not very pretty, or maybe worried about disease? And turtles, what a hoot! I hope your neighbors get their puppies taken away. What kind of dogs are they? Barking and growling as puppies, sound like some type of mean dog. Not good, in my opinion!

Thanks Patti, but to be honest if it hits 42 like they said, that will feel like 60 to me this time of year! It is crazy, but at least I won't have to worry about things blooming early for at least 2 months yet!

I agree, Sissy, I think we may have missed a season this year so far. I have faith that we will get hit with some real winter still, though! I mainly worry about the flower bulbs coming up and trying to grow this week, with the warm temps. I just hope they stay put until proper time, which is more like in March. Only a month away, though!

My flower bulbs are only maybe 1-2" out of the ground, so they will be fine, assuming they don't "go for it" this week! Maybe your VA weather will support the early blooming of your pussy willows, Sissy. I sure hope so anyhow! I was even tempted to spray with Roundup the area I plan to sow wildflower seeds, since I forgot to do that last fall. As warm as it is, I suspect the grass is actually growing, so the roundup would likely work. But, it's dark by the time I get home, so didn't do it. :)

We were in the high 60's today and expected again tomorrow. Then they are calling for a chance of snow Saturday night! Go figure!! We haven't had much of a winter either, it's been great for pond building though.

I hear you guys, it was great today, went outside without a coat for most of the day in just pants and a t-shirt and was fine, didn't catch the hi, but in the 40s somewhere I believe. supposed to be in the 40s all week, most of the snow is gone, took some pics today again and will get them up in the next few days

Haha, and I thought I was weird going outside without a jacket in the 50's! Shows how we get used to the temps. My sister in AZ would not be caught outside in the70's without a light jacket. :) Go Green Bay!

If you put roundup in now and solar salt sprinkled around the area and put a cheap tarp over the area you want to kill of .The salt helps the the roundup work better and lets you use less of it so the soil heats up and it does not kill off the good stuff like the worms .My father used to use salt and lime to kill off an area and a large tarp over it as it does not kill off the worms and stuff in the ground .A little safer than round up .He even used vineger and salt to kill off weeds that were stubborn to kill .

We were in florida in 2010 in the fall and the weather was only going to be a high of 55 and they were talking about how cold it was going to be. It is all relative to what you are used to.

like they say some people have thin skin and feel the cold more .So guess if you are used to higher temps anything below 70 gives you the shivers and we go to places like that and it is 70 and we are sweating .REMEMBER AGE DOES THAT TO YOU ALSO .

My sister and mom are always talking about their blood being "thinner". Is there really anything to that, where if you live where it's warm and hot all the time, your blood thins out and that's why you are colder? I never could figure that out. Thought it was just a "saying".
Tomorrow morning, if it's sunny and nice like it was this morning (high in 40's before I left for work), I'm going to sit outside with my coffee and watch the fish! This morning I didn't realize that they were getting more active until it was time to leave for work. The koi were at about 2.5-3' depth (no longer on the bottom) and the goldfish were in 3 different groups, and were moving around, nibbling at the algae. I sure miss sitting on the deck edge watching them move around, so I will do just that in the morning! At least one more day of 50's here so going to take advantage of it. Just looked, 2 more days of 50's, then still 40's for the next week, and lows getting down to freezing, but not much below. House furnace never turned on all day. Is still 65 in here this evening, since I had blinds open in south and west windows. :) Love it!!! But, bet propane and electric companies are not happy with mild winters as we have had so far!
