Nathan,
My dad had me help him build a tent trailer so us 8 kids could go camping, we dug out our basement by hand, with my first car he paid for a class in repairing it. But I love knowing how to use tools, and not being a ...... lol........helpless blonde. Like sissy, when you have your own home and no man around you learn how to take care of it. My first home, had for around 15 years, before I finally broke down and married someone.
I mainly played with horses, critters, never really had a doll that I dressed. Well when I was 10 I started help raise one kid, 12 helped with the twins, I guess those where my living dolls.........lol

I was the baby of my family and strange but my family all meant a tragic end and left this world to early within 2 years I lost both parents and then a sister and I was only 30 .I guess thats why I am so close to my 2 sons .So I guess all the time you can give to your family is worth it and you will never regret it .Your children are lucky herz as most kids don't get that kind of bonding today .I see kids that all they think of is me me me or I want I want or they just get totally neglected because there parents still want the party life .Babies are cute but just like puppies they grow up and they need guidance

Addy,
It sounds like your dad was the opposite of mine, he was never that handy with stuff as far as I know, not sure if he ever was before I was born but I doubt it. The trailer must have been pretty cool to do it yourselves, and the class to repair the car could pay for itself the first time you could make repairs on it. lol yeah I'm sure if your a blonde you get some looks from guys when they realize you know what your doing, j/k the dumb blonde stereotype mostly applies to the ones who act ditzy all the time. How many kids were in your family?

Sissy,
That sucks, thats pretty much the age I'm at now and I really don't want to think about not having either parent around or one of my siblings, but like you said it made you definitely appreciate your sons. I just have the one girl, but I agree a lot of parents aren't as involved and I will admit sometimes I am guilty of using the electronic baby sitter, but it is fun to get her involved in the hobbies I have.

funny you said that you get your daughter involved with the electronic baby sitter my sons got me involved with the puter and I wonder if thats an old people sitter LOL well not that old I'm 58 now but getting there .I lost the last of my family 2 years go when my brother died at the hands of a caretaker and he was 58 at the time .Remember people there are good caretakers and bad .He had a stroke and needed a nurse but not this nurse .So when you parents do need one check them out watch what they are doing check with your parents doctors if you suspect anything and keep notes of what you see wrong .

We had 8 kids, seven girls one boy, the boy was born last of a set of twins. I started helping raise kids with the last three (I was 10 then 12 when the twins were born). The twins used to call me mommy...........lol

My dad like us to know how to take care of ourselves, he said go to college, mom said have kids..........lmao. I went to college.
My sister and I where both on a rifle team, both blondes, we had a shoot against the Annapolis naval academy, we won............laughing. They were besides themselves to be beat by two blondes. Dad hated guns, but wanted us to know how to use them. Members of the nra for years.

I still tinker with cars, but it is harder with all the computer stuff, mainly turn the key and drive now.

Sissy,
do your sons ever try to push you out of the way if you are trying to show them something on the computer and its taking too long? lol I get the urge to do that with my mom sometimes. Good advice on caretakers...

Addy,
that sounds like some of my family, some were farmers and had 8-10 kids and the oldest got to raise the younger ones.

One of the nurses we have taking care of my honey's parents, was slowly taking things out of the house, draining his bank account. She would charge him 100 dollars to drive to the store to pick up some groceries, then charge for the groceries then take most of them home. I took over all their mail, checking account etc. She soon was removed from her duties. Dad in law had no clue, he just paid what he was told to pay. We started checking his accounts and soon realized what was going on.
Before we could remove her, she had him put into the hospital and with the story she told the doctors, he was going to be committed to a psych ward. That was one of our emergency drives down, we hit town and fired her. She was hoping to be paid for sleeping at the house to take of mom in law that has Alzheimers, while he was committed.

That is the only thing I dread about getting old, is someone getting a hold over me.

Yep, we go down every 6 weeks or so now to do checks, so far we have a good group of nurses. We have 7 day a week care, just not 24 hour care

I was reading on the net that a nursing home put in a pond just for therapy for it's patients and are even looking for more people to visit with dogs to help patients interact and have found most of the patients in the past six months seem more relaxed and blood pressures are down and they seem happier and more willing to get out side and get fresh air and they found because of this nuses and staff are finding it easier to take care of patients .Amazing what happens .The nursering home is here in VA and they say that the fish in the pond look happy too .I guess it shows what pets do for people .They say the pond has not been a big mantinience hassle either .

It sounds like in both cases the caretaker was trying to get everything from the people they were taking care of...its too bad when you run into scam artists who pose as caretakers and ones who do it for $ not to help their fellow human beings. It is great though when you run into ones who do it because they enjoy helping others. Sissy, that sounds like a cool idea, too bad more don't focus on things like that to get the patients to interact more.

now we all have to remember that when we get old herz .That is if we make it to old LOL.I was thinking of seeing if I could bring King Arthur my sissfied pit bull to visit people .He just loves people and likes to show that love .When I take both dogs out for a ride people stop to look and laugh a sissy pitbull and a tiny bossy chihuahua .Oh well what can I say but that I love them .How is your weather holding up herz,I see a big storm is coming across and hope you and your pond are ready .I will wait until around the middle of December to shut mine down as it has still been in the high 60's and 70's here .I don't want to shut it down to early as fish are still to active

Sissy,
That is funny, but I'm sure you get a lot of scared looks for the pitbull at first. I grew up with german shepherds and know first hand the rep they get isn't warranted either. My neighbors also had a doberman pincher that was one of the nicest dogs I ever knew also. I have had mine shut down for a couple weeks, but was running an air stone for extra oxygen with an aquarium pump. Will probably take that out by december so I don't have to worry about it burning out. Right now it is 36-38 degrees and windy with some rain. Was pouring about an hour ago. Was originally forcasted just rain all day, but now we have a chance for 1-2 inches of snow.

Here's the pond right now
