OMG @addy1 what a terrible accident !

I think I've told you my folks had a 54 foot Hatteras. Dad lived on the boat Spring till late summer and Mom went back and forth between the cottage and the boat. One Spring ( not many people around yet ) after Dad had returned from the gym he had a charlie horse and wanted to stretch his calf muscle. He dropped his heels over the side of the boat and bam......next thing he knew he was under water !

It was a miracle his glasses weren't knocked off so he could still see. He told himself not to panic and figure out what he was seeing.......lots of blue. He realized he was under the boat looking up at the bottom of the boat. He carefully followed the outline of the boat and surfaced at the end of the pier.

It was May in Lake Michigan in Northern Michigan, so freezing and no one was around ! He climbed out of the water via a ladder at the end of the dock. Once aboard he stripped and took a hot shower then went to ER. He had a concussion and broken ribs. I think it really scared him as he never took the boat out on the Great Lakes by himself ever again.

I'm so glad you weren't alone and you or the pups weren't more seriously injured. Things happen fast on the water and not a big margin of error.

Yep a blink and boom in the water, lucky water was 40ish, lucky did not break neck, lucky pups ok, lucky I am totally calm in the water.

Sad arm sure hit something, pulled all my lefts ribs , not broken but pulled and darn sore, worse pain than the wrist. He called my wrist a bad break.

See doc Tuesday see how it is doing.

Could have been real bad for your dad. I dropped clothes on the back deck zero worry about flashing

Worry or Care ? Just glad you got out. and what's worse if you had been at a solid wall dock and fell between the boat and the retaining wall. a boat that size you'll often find spots like that.

The only time I have ever bruised was when I had lime, literally one half of my body like it was a cartoon and I was two face, one side of my body was rashed and all bruised. The other half was fine most bizzare thing I have ever seen.... motor cycle accidents car accidents construction accidents never a bruise.

Neither worried or cared. I wanted that heavy dripping wet coat off, wet clothes off as fast as possible.

Here is the spot , on the steps blue arrow, red x the door we put the kids in. Purple x where hubby pulled kids out of water, and the slot I fell into. About 1.5 feet wide. Pic from our boat cam. It is low tide currently. High tide when I took the dive.

The other dock you can see why hubby could not just pull me out, with just one wing lol.

The top of that 4 step ladder is below the opening at high tide. So yep a. Good drop down., no clue how far under I went. I just saw my pup swimming up for the surface I pushed his butt up. Sort of blank after that. No clue if i went back under. I don't think so. Felt calm sort of lol I know hubby got the pups did not see it but he told me. Ow I was not being saved yet. Could not find ladder saw one but too far to my brain, so got to our swim ladder.

I recall spitting out that water just a tiny bit got in mouth.

That was a effort one armed telling hubby don't touch my left arm.

Yep count myself lucky. Ribs just hurt real bad might have cracked some did not get xray I think just pulled bad. Rt side zero damage, nice slick boat to ride down lol

With the bigger than a baseball hematoma and bruise on upper arm sure lucky it did not break.

Goodness @addy1 ! That’s a scary one! I’m glad you’re doing ok and on the way to mending.

I broke my wrist flipping a kayak and you are right - the things you need two arms for become apparent very quickly… all modesty is gone when you need help pulling up your own pants!

Take care of yourself. Lots of rest - it’s important for healing!

Suggestion ...... a gang plant to the back of the boat? i imagine you have a nice landing on the aft swim if not the aft deck a couple 2x4's with strong backs as posts and use them to lift the gang plank have the height variable in the boat not getting onto it you could have rails on both sides of the gang plank. those stairs are always sketchy

@addy1 REACH out to your local supplier . when my neighbor was into bees, at his end when he was in the hospital i know the other keepers took care of his hives for him until his passing. I know it's a small community, Much like here, but your timing stinks.

I belong to bee clubs tried to get help, have some that can help on weekends, but weather turning again. Need the temps we have now to check them ie above 60.

Losing today 60 plus but got hand doc appt. By time home too late to go into them.

With her lifting the frames turning a bit I can quick look and know here we are.

Big hives different, reversing boxes moving frames etc and a LOT more bees

@addy1 amazed at how you are doing all of this. I know you will be careful as you don't want to set yourself back. Hope the doc gives you a good review on your healing progress :)

The doc said a cast next week' then in 3 weeks a splint. Said doing good.

When working the bees my left arm anchored under the bee suit so no auto movements.

We got back from doc it was 70f she said let's tackle the hives! We got through the last 7 all strong healthy full of bees.

She pulls the frame holds it until I can grab one edge then helps me angle to see the brood etc. Then she puts back in the hive.
I am in front of the hives a lot more bees there..

Now on butt letting arm ribs relax.
