That is a beautiful flower! I’m hoping I can draw the bees in with what I bought, and what I’ve planted. We saw them around when the Apple tree was blooming, but not much since, and I like my bees. I bought yarrow, pincushion flower, a lupine, and petunias. I got all but the yarrow replanted yesterday, and I’m thinking that one will go directly in the ground. I know they can be big spreaders, but that’s ok with me. More flowers for the bees, more native type plants to fight the highly invasive Johnson grass. In fact, I’ll be collecting seeds this fall to spread across the property.

Very pretty plant! I read that it is great for the bees! I did see the seeds need total darkness to germinate so they must be covered with soil.
hummmmmm the company sent planting instructions, sprinkle on dirt, slightly press in, don't cover................... oh well will wait and see

Got to love the internet, one site, plant while still have frost, another plant after frost, one cover with soil another just sprinkle out. walk on to compress into soil.

I just tossed them out, did not want to till up the plants already growing. Tried to get them onto dirt areas. Small seeds thinking the rain would get them down onto the dirt. If not only 18 bucks spent. Might buy another pound and spread some more. lol

totally dependent on rain to water, no way to get hoses to the areas.

The bees love sunflowers, so do my ground hogs and deer

We are trying to grow some sunflowers here too. I need to go buy a big bag of seeds for planting, and plant them all along the fence/ porch.

Speaking of never knowing on the internet what happened to our little entrepreneur. Last we saw he was building tge pond for a neighbor but he never finished his build ,at least on here. That's doesn't seem like him.

The birds land on the branch above but chose to go to the upper pond where we couldn't see them so I measured the depth of the spots where I always saw them bathing. I duicated this at the base of the little falls. Time will tell. So far just the one but it's cool today.

@j.w that's probably one of the biggest under statements as the Mrs and I are sitting out back and we'll I'll let the videos speak for them selves. sorry for the poor video as it was just about dark sun had already set. I had just built that little mini pool at the bottom of the falls yesterday and a wren jumped in and now today of all the places in the pond to go he went right for the new bird bath. crazy. the pup was certainly wondering what this duck was up to. And as the duck swam off to dead pool a possum walked through the video crazy

@brokensword this might be of interest to you as well.

indeed, quite interesting. Pretty cool how they found the mirror pool so fast, huh? That's the one thing I can say is a regret re my pond in that I do miss having birds and such. That's why I put in the decoys, just so I have SOMETHING in that area. I did have a bird pair that made a nest once, up along the walls and cross supports, before I unrolled the screen top, but that's been the only time birds have been inside. It did seem as though your dog really wanted to figure a way out to the mallard! I wonder if you'll have any nesting in your pond. I know RobAmy has had it happen among others. Hope you're ready for some good photos, then!

Btw, the water trickling down into the mirror pool, is that a water lead set in a log or are those rocks. I wasn't sure. I like the idea a lot and may figure a way to steal it for something a little less grande (hardly any more room to do stuff inside the pondhouse, but I do have one 3/4" lead from one of the waterfalls that is just biding its time!)

Keep the pics/vids coming. It's nice to see better vids and photography, underwater or over (though when you first zoomed in on the mallard, the artifacts sure blurred the detail until you zoomed back out). When I go looking on YouTube, it's amazing how many don't know much about getting good views/angles or even understand how much nicer ponds and pond photography are when the whole area is naturalized. I mean, the koi vids are fine but I get turned off by all the bare walls, hardly any vegetation, you know, the DKP types. I guess with them, its all about the fish but for me, I'd miss any one of the elements I have around the pond.

The log has been placed where the upper little pond 17 x6 x 2 I believe it is one side feeds the main falls while the other side and is shallow feeds the log by only a depression in the pond bank. That's hallow side of the pond is always planted heavily so it's a slow filter as only thatsmall amount of water probably 500 gph gets filtered and then exits through the log
And what I just did is just dug out the soils below the rubber from the side. Wasn't the easiest but it wasn't ridicules either. Then just placed some river rock and put the moss back in place.

To me the colors shapes andtextures of the plants outside the water is as important if not more so then the water. I am building with those criteria as a first and not who and what flowers. I actually have very few flowering plants. But I do not lack color at least not in my eye.

Yeah the zoom in was pretty bad as was most of the video. As it was taken with a cell phone but it was also after sunset and light was terrible.

I'm not a fan of the ducks they love to eat the mosses and the plants. We had a duckling the first or second year it was very cool but when it got big it started ripping the pond apart and it also pecked at the fish. Damned if you do damned if you don't.
