We had record breaking warm weather for this time of year over the weekend (70 degrees) Which was wonderful because I was able to work in the yard and get some leaves cleaned up that we couldn't get to earlier. But I want it to feel like Christmas time and it doesn't when it's this warm.....Never fear though as they say we will be back to our normal temperatures and possibly even snow by the end of the week and into the weekend.

Here is my little boy Harley soaking up the nice weather. Good thing he is going to the groomer for a bath and a hair cut on Friday.

And the pond which is now shut down for the winter weather. Just have the de-icer in place and 4 air stones running. One of these days I really do intend to re-do the edges of the pond so I don't have so much liner showing.

It's been a mild winter here too, but the pond was still 100% frozen over at the end of October, and the ice is thick enough to walk on.
It's definitely above normal though, haven't used the fireplace or furnace much.(y)

Back to reality here for a few days. 30°F out, 28°F tomorrow.
We'll be back in the mid 40°s by the weekend, though.
I heard on the news that some plants are starting to grow like it's Spring again.

The cherry blossoms in DC are starting to bloom. Our grass is still green.

Yikes!

Sometimes we get a 60 degree streak in January. Wreaks havoc on the berry crops in my area.

Today though, we have almost snow. Dank, dark, damp, chilly. Makes me glad for wood heat, so I can get the house toasty then open some doors and windows and listen to the owls and coyotes at night.

Went and saw a bunch of Christmas light displays tonight. It's so odd that Christmas is next week. It's not like it's that uncommon to have a Christmas without snow, and not even that uncommon to have some warm weather this time of year, but with the stretch of warm weather lasting so long and being so consistent, it really seems odd that Christmas is only a week away. I was sitting out by my garden having a fire the other night, and thought about how odd it is to be sitting out by my fire and also seeing neighbor's Christmas lights on.

Once the cold and snow finally hits and sticks, time will seem to slow way down, so it's nice to get the first small chunk of Winter out of the way. I have a feeling things will get back to normal once we get into the new year.

I know what you mean about it feeling odd that Christmas is next week. I went out yesterday wearing my trench coat instead of my winter coat! Felt really weird. The fishes in our pond still have quite an appetite too, so we're cautiously feeing them. My plants in the garden are very confused too - I've got roses still in bloom, and both of my ceanothus have started flowering already.

I suppose I shouldn't complain given that the smallest bit of snow seems to wreak havoc here though!
