I knew you wouldn't be freezing for too long down there in the southlands addy. You are twice as warm down there right now at this minute then you would be at home. We made it up to 50 and it felt rather warm in comparison to a couple days ago.

Snowing, 27. Day time temps the next 6 days will be over 32 and as high as 38 :). My pond has been frozen over for the last three weeks, except for a small opening. That's the longest my pond has stayed frozen at one time during the winter since I've started it.

I am currently at 37 degrees, warmer than most of you south of me! It seems weird when that happens, but I am grateful to have the "borrowed" warm weather for a while. Little baby Rio needs and sunny outdoor break and is twice as big as last month so she does not freeze so quick now.

I left some pond lights on so I could see the big fish at night and keep a closer eye of them under the ice. Just look at all that Hornwort, the ice mostly melted from the top pond now..

the lights change color....

The Middle and bottom pond still have ice, and
and I have not had heater plugged in for days now.

mtpond, your pond was not froze for months last year during the long cold winter? What zone are you in?

I thought that you we not too far from the border and maybe had long cold winter like me"
I'm In zone 4b. Yes my pond did freeze over last winter cause it was so cold but the opening in the pond didn't stay as small last year as it has this winter.
001.jpg Pond opening tonight and the way it has looked for three weeks.

I didn't do pictures ever day, just did them as the pond changed. Last winter I had a stock tank heater sank in my pond. Think I'm going to sink a smaller one and see if anything changes. Bottom of my pond temp is running colder this winter then it did last winter.:(

If you had some moving water in front of your heater then you would have a larger opening in ice. Running another heater would cost more and I think is is not necessary, as ice cold water has never hurt my fish in well over two decades. People worry too much about water temperature and not enough about water quality and making sure enough oxygen gets down under the ice, especially if fish are larger than last year and pond is not bigger....

Almost 50f here this morning at 10am. Too warm to make a fire in the wood stove. Rain pouring down on us all day today.

Sunny and above Freezing!! Little Rio should be all tuckered out now, she was outside following the Big puppies all morning around the pond and she can now even get up the back stairs!
This morning Little Rio discovered a little itty bitty piece of string sticking out and of course she had to see how much she could unravel!

and that is the last rug in this house till further notice cause the others ended up with little "wet spots" on them....

lol Pups seem to like carpet, to them it is a pee pad, warmer than going outside!
I have used, simple solution, a spray enzyme that removes the yellow and removes any odor , eats it right up. It has to be used without washing the spot at all, just spray and dab, gone! Missy only hit our carpet twice, then we put up a gate so she could not get to the carpet. She did pretty good being of the tough to train yorkie breed.
Now if it is raining she gets to the edge of the door, sniffs the air, listens, turns around and comes right back in, puts her needs on hold until the rain stops. So funny to watch her. She will go out in the rain if it is a serious need.
