Went from a beautiful, sunny 60F yesterday to a VERY windy 40F this morning! Glad I got the last of the smaller tubs cleaned out yesterday! All ready for winter now. :cold:

@Troutredds Hey you know Ciscoe the garden guy on the radio and tv here. He was just talking about Purple Fountain Grass and says he can't ever get it to grow back and he even asked for people to call in if they knew a way to make it come back. Try addy's suggestion and it might just work. Hope you did it before last night or too late..................brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr it was so cold here and right now only 21 up here.

I had some come back, a mild winter not like last winter, I put a large black garbage bag full of mulch on top of the plant after cutting it back, it managed to survive. Then we had a lot colder winter killed it off, like -10.

One of the few places we can let her run free. She runs for the entire 4 miles.

She sniffs the foot prints of anything that has walked on the beach. She is such a hunter

Good for her to run like that and wears her out and I bet she sleeps all night. Nothing like the good ocean air either. Love the smell and the sound of the crashing waves. Are you eating lots of yummy seafood?

I love our walks, right now something is chasing and feeding off the fish right off shore. You see waves of silver hitting the surface and something large and dark green coming up to snack on them.

The sea food in Maryland is better than the seafood here. Which makes no sense to us. The crabs for sure, our blue crabs are so darn good.

Had are 1st full 20 degree freeze last night. Water temps are 40 dgrees. My Koi are starting to slow down. Is it normal for the bigger ones to be hiding in the fish cave when the temps get this low? Its almost like they are huddling together to keep warm.

Once my water temps went below 50, the koi pretty much huddle at the bottom, some in the cave, some on the bottom. I always wonered if they stayed close to keep warm, but I wonder if it's a matter of staying together to warn each other of any danger.
Koi pond ready for winter, goldfish pond was good last year, so stayed the same. Temps here also went from 60 to 30 in a day, now down to the 20's tonight. Brr ... highs only in the 30's for the next week, which is about 20 degrees colder than average. NOT FAIR! LOL I sure hope this is not the beginning of what is supposed to be a colder winter than last winter! I can take cold, but not for 5 months, thank you very much, Mother Nature! Bring on the really cold in January, not in November for goodness sake. I know some of your northerners are used to 5-6 months of freeze, but I am not, and don't care to be either!
Got all of my garden "art" put away inside, too, so all my outside stuff is done. Even planted out the 10 small mums I got a month or so ago, so will see if they come back next year. Planted the patio peach tree and dwarf lilac, too. They had been on the deck in their pots since I got them 2 months ago. It took waiting until the last minute to get me to get that job done. LOL Now I can work on my counted cross stitching for the rest of the winter!

Hey, @j.w, if it's going to get that cold here this week at night, do you think I should cut back this fountain grass, hoping it will come back next spring, or should I just let it die off? Here's how it looked today:

Its generally better for plants to leave them be rather than cutting them. Think of it this way, no plants in the wild get cut back. I usually pull remaining leaves and stems the next Spring once it starts warming enough to start growing again.

Woke up to 32* F this morning, only getting to high of about 35*, same for rest of week into weekend. Low tonight is supposed to be in the teens, bbbrrr snow on Sunday maybe. My poor pond, I have gotten caught with my pants down, drum filter still running and I haven't cut and put planst in bottom of the pond, I may be starting over in the spring.
Well, I truly will as I will be moving and digging liner up and taking it & fish with me!
