Colleen, is that an elephant ear in your pond, and maybe a canna, too? Did you have to bring those inside? I put my canna out, had it inside in spare bedroom all winter, and it was not happy last weekend, the full sun and wind gave it a beating, but it's coming around. Had 80's all week here, full sunny skies. Rain coming tonight, all day tomorrow, but that's fine with me.
As far as things not looking like they are coming back, I have 3 of my 4 butterfly bushes look to be dead, 1 of 2 azaleas not leafing out, the other is blooming; flower crab has literally 10 leaves on one branch, it must have died; of the 2 burgandy leaf red bud trees, one has about 3 or 4 leaves, the other has none. Pretty sure they are both dying or dead. And, saddest part for me is the huge oak tree I moved last fall, was sure it would make it, seems to be dead, too. No leaf growth yet at all. I'll not totally give up on it for another month, but it's not looking good.
I guess that horrific winter pushed my climate at least one zone colder than normal.
What I DO see budding out are the hibiscus I grew from seeds from Sissy last year, and the hibiscus I got from landscape place. Both of them are coming back. Other bushes or plants I moved last fall are coming out back low on the trunk instead of all along the branches. Wisteria is fully budded out, lots of flower buds on it, so it made it. Very interesting to see what suffered, and what made it.
