plus colleen it will not crack and fall into the pond and possibly hurt your fish .My dad always used to pull the metal he used to divert the spring fed pond and fill it up to the ice so it would melt and not crack the ice .It became my job once I learned what to look for so pond would not over flow .I think that he had catfish in there he caught when we were out on our boat in the river .He would always take the small boat out when we first moved in the house to catch fish for the natural pond that had been neglected by the other owners .No fish and my father used that pond to irrigate his gardens .Good fish poo was good veggies ,he made sure he always said that .

Sissy You sure learned a lot from your dad, and your memories are so wonderful! I love when you tell us about your life years ago. when I read your words and my mind drifts off and I can picture you in my head, like I was there... the grass was long and green, the sky was blue, and you and your dad are slowly drifting in between the long water reeds, and the boat gently slid across the little grassy pond....

I spent lots of time with my dad that meant lots of work ,but strange i never remember complaining about it .I am glad he taught me hard work means success .I don't ever remember my dad ever just sitting around and relaxing except when he was on 1 of his boats .I would have loved both sons to get to know them but my oldest was the only one who knew them the best .He loved there gardens and all the fresh stuff he could pick .Glad you have your mom around I know a day did not go by that i did not call or get a call from my mom .When the phone stopped ringing the silence was the worst .Still can hear her voice Sissy it is mom ,like I did not know it was her on the phone :)Cherish the times they pass to fast

Beautiful yard, Priscilla, and at first I thought wow, so much shade, but after reading about your heat, bet you have to shade your pond as much as possible for the fish.

l

Thanks! Its only shaded in the morning and afternoon, the sun is currently beating down on my poor fishies. They are hiding under some floating plants. I sometimes wonder if my white koi will get sun burned .... lol

55f and sunny here today but that wind is still cold! Stopped at the 1st yard sale of the year and snagged a box of 175 assorted hose clamps for $10. Love those moving sales. Never mind the furniture and dishes, I raid the boxes in the garages.

This will be the warmest day of the year, trouble is the snow is melting so fast that the back yard is a mud bath and the neighbor's back yard right next door is flooding. Need to take the puppies to park but the park will be too muddy today so forget that messy thought.
Bottom pond is almost ice free, have to run to work soon, but I have tomorrow off!

Wow, Colleen, I see you are at 48F! Super. Here, all ice has been gone for several days, but the water lines that have not been running all winter (had to shut them down, after power went out first week of Jan), are still somewhat frozen, so cannot get the skippy filter (waterfall) of the koi pond going, nor the koi pond bog, which is still frozen. Ho hum .., soon it will all thaw out, as we are expecting all above freezing temps this coming week, with highs even reaching the 60's. I'm loving it!

Yep, this time of year, I hate the mud. Can't just let the dogs bounce into the house, they must wait to get their paws and bellies wiped off first. Soon they won't even get to come into the house, when it's warm and nice outside. They are happy to be outside all day now, the boys anyhow. Spoiled Miss Priss Denali stays in her crate, but that needs to change, too. She needs to get used to being outside in the kennel, so I can go places on the weekend and not have to worry about someone letting her go potty all day long.
