i had been a little busy with work last week - and with the cooler weather late last week i wasnt able to feed the fish in the pond - my wife was feeding them...
come the weekend... i called to the fish to come and get their food - they poked their heads out - looked at me - went back in!
they were either scared or mad! :)
i HAD to sit and talk to them for more than 30 mins! then they finally came over!
fish can get mad  i dont know why they were mad at me though - they still got fed - maybe they didnt get talked to but they got food!

If mine don't eat they go hungry, don't even try to convince them to eat. But with gf the eat all of the time, at least some will.

Cold here in west Georgia today. My little rosey reds are darting around though. The fathead minnows seem to do okay in cooler weather. It almost looks like they are in slow motion, cause in July they dart around so fast you can barely see them. I hope after this cold snap that spring will finally come marching in around here. http://mgeorge1050.hubpages.com/hub/pondfish

Jmajid, I wonder if your wife's way of feeding was frightening the fish, or maybe she just tossed the food in, and didn't first wait for the fish to come to her. I bet there is a very different way she feeds compared to you. I know my fish won't come up to eat when there are 2 people standing in the "fish food" position. LOL If we stand very still, they they will come up, and I've done different things when I feed, so they don't get so used to just me feeding them. They are very particular, I believe!
Sissy, I'm soooo glad you found your issue before it became very serious! I hope your weather warms up and you are able to get your blocks and so forth. That's a LOT of work for just little ole you, but I know you can do it. Hard part is first project you do after not much physical activity in the winter time. I'm going to do some renovating on my ponds this spring/summer, but will try to choose a week when the weather will cooperate with me for what I want to get done.
38 tomorrow, then 40's and close to 50 for the next week after that, and almost no precipitation! I'm loving it. Maybe I should be ordering liner and figuring out what I want to build NOW, rather than waiting for the spring rains to begin ... But, don't want to be driving over my yard with truck full of pea gravel, so thinking I'd better wait for now. But, exciting that temps will be well above freezing for highs. I'm thinking spring bulbs will be popping up very soon here. Won't catch up with JW, but at least be right behind her. ;)

Sissy, maybe Bert and Aggie will give you some koi babies for Mother's Day this year. :D
Wow, tried to post this comment, and got an error that I "must wait 3 seconds to perform this request". Heehee, maybe you can't post comment after comment on the same thread unless you wait a little while in between.

Hello ! Anybody up? wide awake at 2am, fell asleep early around 8pm after big walk in the fresh snow down by the park after work. Nice to see new people on this thread!
How cold is "cold" down in west Georgia Allen? Georgia sounds like a nice place, got to go look on my map to see where that is... The flathead minnows sound nice, never had them but do have a few rosy minnows still left in the bottom pond. I put rosies in the little front yard pond last summer, that has a little stream with plants, the rosy minnows loved to swim up into that stream, it was fun to watch them swim all in little group up the stream. They are outside back in the main ponds in the bottom pond now, they seem to do fine all winter as I have had some for years now.
Just let Bear dog outside, not too cold, only about minus 14 Celsius (about 7 fahrenheit, heard the owl outside "hooting" in the trees again. I have heard the owl every night for the past week or two, think he is hanging around now, maybe finding lots of food to eat ... :penguin:

well - it was warmer overnight than it has been for the past two days... its 40 here!
The forecast is 54 today - but then again they said the forecast for yesterday turned out to be too overly optimistic at 42 - never reached that until the depths of night!
Yes, I did ask how my wife feeds them - she said she walked up - paused, then threw the food into the planter ring we use for feeding...then went to the nursery cage and sat there (!) and then fed them... i think she has a soft spot for the small ones :)
I have a soft spot for bigger comets/goldfish that survived and the new koi :)
