CE, those Canadian geese are very good to eat, they don't taste wild like some ducks and the goose fat is VERY good to have. Goose fat is the very best kind of fat for frying and if you are sick you rub the goose fat at on your skin and it keeps you so warm! I love to eat Canadian Goose, they have mostly dark meat, but I love the dark meat cause it tastes better, like chicken legs!

good grief Sissy! How did that happen, did something sharp fall into the pond! One of my pond liners is 20 years old now, sure hope it holds out a little longer... I am going to build a deeper pond that is bigger this summer and get rid of that liner soon. My saving grace is that my soil is pretty much all clay down deep and water does not drain fast in this area of town, water stands in puddles for weeks in the back alley sometimes...

I know i had something chew through the liner up top but no rocks could have fallen where this spot is because there are no rocks near the side walk part of the pond .I have the ladder and board there to lift the bridge .It is the only way I can do it myself .The sidewalk side is the closest in the pics and no rocks there

lol for sure Colleen, my honey helped by working and making the bucks for our pond. I am done digging ponds, we have enough water flowing around. And everything cares for itself right now, with little intervention from me.
Good luck Sissy on your dig if we were closer I would come and help you.

Got a big hole in the ice at home, it is going to be 60 today, then chance of snow mid week. Think we are doing the bounce up now. We head north in two weeks, the day depends on if they predict a storm hitting between here and home..............snow type.

Got my all day bee class on the 15 and 22 so we do have a head home deadline.

well pond rebuild is on hold by what I can see .I pulled the top part of the liner on the non leaking end and with in a half hour there was over 10 inches of water filling it up .It was seeping in the sidewalls and the bottom from all the snow melt and heavy rain we got yesterday morning .I put the liner back and slowly put the water back in the pond to push the standing water back out from behind the liner .I had a feeling that this may be the case because I had dug holes the fall before to plant my banana plants and they were full of water and draining over the top .By wednesday we are supposed to get more rain and I can't have the walls collapsing since there is a sidewalk and steps on that one side and the front porch on the end .I checked also with an engineer friend of mine back in Jersey and he confirmed what I already knew .Better safe than sorry

Sissy, good luck with your new dig! Glad you have friends you can confer with but know you know what needs to be done on your own, too. I do everything on my own, too. Seems many of us do!
Catfish, I moved into this house "on the prairie" in Sept. 2009, and the geese have come to the surrounding fields EVERY Feb. since then. It must be in their migratory route, assuming they are heading north now. They eat all the corn that gets left in the fields since the farmers these days whip through the fields with their high powered combines, never worrying about the excess corn that gets tossed out! 20 years ago, you would find very little corn seeds left in the fields, but nowadays the farmers are all about fast. Corn is so hybrid that they harvest before it's totally dry, because if they wait, and we have high winds, the whole field might be laid over, and then the corn falls out of the shuck, and some onto the ground. It's crazy how they are changing things. But, the snow geese sure make a feast out of what is left! They are 90% of the time in corn fields, almost never in soy bean fields, so those fields must be cleaner, not as much waste. Corn hybrids have such thin stalks, so it goes through the combine easier, that it also breaks off easier. Anyhow, I love seeing the geese. They were here again this morning, little farther down, but could definitely hear them as they took flight to go in search of food for the day. Now it's quiet again. Fields around my house must be safest for them, and since only 3 houses on this 1.5 x 1 mile rectangle, you can see why they choose this area.
These pic are on Feb 18 with the snow, and Feb. 21 with no snow. Woohoo, spring is around the corner, I believe! Even if it's supposed to get colder this coming week again, only to 30's for high, I can handle that!

Snow is gone.JPG

Sunny morning, very nice outside, winds have finally ceased. My large trash container that gets emptied once a month by a truck got blown over in the wind. Darn it, cause I can't move it, far too heavy. Glad I have tractor, but ground is soft, so will wait a few days until gets colder again, and ground is more solid to drive tractor.
Heavy trash container turned over.JPG

Shingles on my house are standing up from the winds, 7 tornadoes in my area 2 nights ago.
Lots of damage north and east of me, but just trash container blown over and shingles damaged. Will get estimate to see if it needs to be replaced. Hoping the guy says I need a new roof, and insurance pays for the bulk. I want to put metal roof on, pay the extra out of my tax refund, hopefully. Will have to wait for estimate, though, since insurance is $1,000 deductible.

Snowing here now but won't last long as it is too warm, blah!
That's some mean wind you got there CE and the roofing would bother me too. Hope they can get you a new roof.

Ce- sorry you got so much damage from the storms. We had tornado warnings here but no damage. 60+ outside today but have started replacing the floor in the entrance way before the new doors go on. We had laminate tile down but forgot we never pulled the old vinyl! It was loose in some areas so it has to come up before the tile can be set. What a pain! finally got smart and got my steam mop out and did a small section at a time. Hubby and I got 30 sq.ft. done in 2 hours. It would have taken days to scrape it all off by hand.
