It's so cold here, the governer has order all wind turbines to be turned north and put on HI to try and blow this cold air back to Colleen. I hope it works or I will have to make a fire in the fireplace. We don't even have a fireplace yet!?!? I would love to have a wood burning stove right now. We would be toasty warm in here.

Jeepers it will be Very cold tomorrow for poor CE, and Addy is also going to have frightfully cold temps for her région too! If you have never seen such low temps before, this could be scary for you folks seeing this strange cold! Feel free to Ask me lots of questions if you are unsure about the measures you are taking to protect your ponds, and I will try to help you as much as I can. I would strongly suggest you get heaters for your ponds if you don't already have one before they sell out!

Good luck to all of you that will be seeing this very cold arctic air mass move down over the midwest!!

This is so weird we were not supposed to get above 30, right now 43 in Maryland and raining, pond looks totally ice free. They are calling for snow today, too warm right now, but then 4 degrees tonight. 11 tomorrow.
I think with how our temps bounce even if we freeze over totally it will not last long. We are heading back up to 50 on Sunday.

You all that head down in temp and stay down have a lot more serious issues. Even if my pond froze over totally it would not last long enough to put the fish in danger. I don't have a pond heater.

They are saying this is the coldest it has been in 20 years. It will be colder in Georgia than it is in Alaska 50 degrees below average, for a lot of the country.

Down here we are dipping to 50 then right back up into the 70's then 80, warmer than normal.

Addy, your saving grace will be your ground is not frozen very hard and your pond is quite large. The ground will keep the pond warm enough till normal temperatures return. I am sure you will be fine, I looked at your forecast again and it says minus 15 C for a low, which is less cold than what they said you would get yesterday... I have yours, CE, Sissy, Mitch, and JW's location on my cell phone weather so I can secretly track your weather. He he he... :)

Those who have a smaller sized pond will see alot more ice, as smaller ponds cool very quick. If you are having sustained cold temps for days, the ground can freeze quite hard and quite fast if the temps are going down to minus 20 and 30 below zero. If your ground is frozen hard, then things can freeze super quick and super hard with those lows. I sure hope everybody makes it out of the "deep freezer" OK once this Arctic air retreats back to Canada! :)
