It was a very nice day today, but I spent it looking for my beloved Yukon. He was home Sunday morning for breakfast, have not seen him since. Wasn't really worried about him until yesterday morning, being 2 days gone. Posted his pic on all the local shelter websites, called them, posted info on 2 local radio websites and called them, and called 3 of the 4 local vet offices (the 4th one was closed yesterday and today). Today I printed up flyers with his pic and my ph# info and handed it out to people within 2-3 miles of where he was seen yesterday around noon. Lady called me while I was at work, and even though I rushed to the area, he was gone. She didn't call until 1 hr after she saw him, as when she got home, she looked for lost dogs and found his pic. People in house very close to where the lady saw him confirmed he was at their house, trying to come inside with their dog, but then last seen heading across the field toward the interstate. Talked to a postal carrier yesterday when looking, and tomorrow will drop off flyers at Altamont to give to postal carriers. He went from my house which is 9.5 miles southwest of Altamont to east of Altamont, total of almost 13 miles in 2 days. Turns out he was running with probably the neighbor's Golden Retriever and they met up with 2 more dogs, which happened to be laboradors, and the 4 of them were spotted Sunday afternoon or evening. Copper came home at 11:30 that night, and I suspect Yukon followed the labs and when he woke up he was confused and just started running. He was seen at the lab's house on Monday evening, then in Altamont on Tues. at noon. Wish I could get a lead of where he has been since noon on Tues. I'm sick with worry. Three hours driving around and handing out flyers. Figured get it in people's hands, as no mail went today. If I had done this on Monday, might have him home now. But, I never would have thought he would have gone that far either. Never would have looked in that area. Ho hum .... praying he finds his way home soon, or back to the house where he was yesterday. I brought our large dog crate with old straw in it, so he will hopefully smell that and crawl inside and feel welcome. the people are really nice and said they will call immediately if he shows back up there. I hope he is smart enough to back track, instead of keeping going farther and farther away. And, I hope someone has given him some food, or maybe he has found a dead animal carcass to feed off of. Pray for his speedy return, please!
And, to make this long paragraph fit on this page, it's supposed to snow tonight, and next week, 3 days in a row with below zero lows, and 2 days of that not above single digits for the HIGH! Yikes, I think we will feel like we are in Canada!

OH NO CE sorry to hear this about your Yukon! Is he fixed? I don't know why all of a sudden he would take off and not come back. Hope he does tho and at least you know he is still alive. He will prolly end up at someones house eventually cuz he is people friendly. Just hope you get him back and no one decides to keep him. Now when you get him back how do you prevent him from doing this over and over again? I'm praying for his safe return right now. I have an underground fence system here and the wire is easy to put in. I watched them do it and you could run a lot of wire around your big property and then get him a collar to wear that won't allow him to leave that goes w/ the system. I had to do it for my cats cuz the man at the end of our road did not like my cat getting his wild birds.

Thanks everyone. Supposed to be snow tonight, but so far nothing, and the weather site says 100%. Pish posh ... I think he never would have gone so far had it not been for the other two dogs, and then for some reason, instead of back tracking home, he was so far he just started walking or trotting off, and going the wrong way. I have no idea why he did this, but I'm hoping he will figure out to come back the way he went eventually. Yes, someone may pick him up and keep him, but the problem with that is when he goes outside, he is going to have the desire to get back home, and may take off again. That's what happened to neighbor about 3 miles north of me. His Australian Shep showed up here, he came to get him next day. Third day the dog was back here. He just wanted to play with Yukon. And, when the guy said I could keep him, 2 days later he went back home on his own. So, they will go back if they can figure it out. As many flyers as I have out there, and all the vet offices, I'm hoping someone will at least call to see if anyone has reported him missing before just deciding to keep him. We shall see ... time will tell.
How do I keep him here after that? Not sure! May do the underground, which would keep him here, but it would not keep others out of my yard. Guess I have my kennels for that, though, when my female comes into heat. Will have to seriously consider doing that. Did not have a collar and tags on him either, so that makes it doubly bad. :bye2:

CE sorry to hear your Yukon has run off. It is hard not to worry especially when the temps are very cold. But dogs are usually smart enough to find some kind of shelter. Hopefully someone will find him and call if he doesn't find his own way home. Would of been better had he been wearing a collar with tags. Living in the country, we do not keep a collar on our dog either as then you worry about them getting hung up going through a fence or something. Wishing you luck getting him home.

Hope you find Yukon soon CE! Losing a dog can be very stressful, and I remember one time my bad Bear dog ran away for well over a half hour down at the park, and it was getting dark! I was getting frantic and calling so loud I almost lost my voice, then finally there he was, just ignoring me!! Girl dogs would NeVER do that, my Poppy, she get's frantic and looks for ME! Bear, well he really does not care about anything except smelling and peeing everywhere!

Good luck CE!!

My little one got out of the house one time, when we first had her, could not find her anywhere. I figured she was gone for good, (missing for 10 minutes) frantic calling grabbing car keys, running around the yard, here she comes wandering from somewhere sniffing as she came. She is so small she snuck out when my honey opened the door to go out, he did not see her. I was frantic!

Now we spot where she is before we open a door. She has gotten so used to being leashed she has slowed down the out the door sneak. I have her micro chipped, two id tags, one on collar one on harness, reward offered. But unless a honest person finds her she will never come home, they will keep her

We are getting cold artic air, tomorrow, 19, wind chill of minus 5, 8 degrees at night, warm to you northerners, but darn colder than we have been in years. Snow tonight, rain first so it is going to be messy.

Cold here, 24F. Watching "Killer Wave" four hour movie. Hope wifey is okay at work. Since Christmas our lives are basic existence. Lot's of the crud going around. Saddly, four flu related deaths in Dallas County. Need to get the pond bottom scooped out. Photo's to upload. Car floormats to replace. Important discoveries pending. Want to get Cathy new perfume but have to wait until we are well enough to go shopping. Blessed. :)

Well stay home and snuggle that cute little puppy Addy, and Lord forbid she sneak outside in that cold, she is so small that her body will chill off very fast!!

Sure hope CE finds her doggy soon too!
Yep sure hope she finds her pup, it breaks your heart to not know if they are safe.

Little ms missy is growing up a little, better about running out of the house. She is frantic if I leave the house, wants to be with me, so I have to watch my feet for the little sneak.
We are going to snuggle down, wait it out, they are calling it a flash freeze, we have not had ever that I am aware of, going from a balmy 40 today, rain then snow then down to 8 degrees with hard winds making a darn cold chill factor. So they are warning any moisture i.e. the snow and rain will freeze up solid and fast.

Sort of what you all went through when the temp dropped so fast up there to minus 45 but no where as cold as you guys were.
