I like the part about no bugs, Mitch. I tend to not like most bugs, especially if they fly around above my drink on the end table, under a lamp, in the summertime. HATE that! But, for the most part, I enjoy other bugs, like butterflies, dragonflies, bees, and spiders, as long as they are making their beautiful webs outside! It's all part of having all 4 seasons here, and most of them in equal time periods, or that's the hope anyhow. We get below 20F not very often, and not for very long when it happens, usually, and seeing temps below 10F is even more uncommon, but happens. Only remember seeing temps below 0F a few times in my life. :blueflower:

Well CE I thought it got colder back there where you live. Sounds like similar winter temps like here. We rarely get below 20's here but have gotten down to -6F but only for a couple days one year. Most of the time here it's in the 30's or 40's for our cold temps and 30's don't last long either. But your Summers are much hotter and longer than ours. We don't have many bugs here either but just heard on the radio that the county jail here has an awful outbreaking of bed bugs, YIKES, how would you like to be locked up w/ a bunch of man eating bed bugs? Maybe a lot of those guys in there will think twice now about committing those crimes :biggrinangelA:

Rain then sleet now snowing here. Very cold this weekend. Lows in single digits and highs mid to upper 20s.

Took the net off the pond this am as I was afraid it would freeze to the ground and then get waited down with snow. I do have a length of dog kennel pipe across the pond holding the net like a tent. But decided it was better to take it off anyway.

Dropped in my 1500 watt deicer but did not plug it in today. Will probably do it tomorrow as we will be getting cold this weekend.

I'm supposed to be gone from Sat. a.m. until Sun. late afternoon. My Boston is a house dog, and will need to figure out where to put her. Can't decide if putting her in the smaller dog shed (fully insulated) with a space heater will be best, although the heater will run a LOT, or in the garage which is also insulated, and assume the house will keep that pretty warm, most likely not below 50. Either way, she will have her heated dog bed to snuggle up on. Just going to put out puppy pads for her to potty on. I'm leaning toward the garage, because of the stupid neighbor's dog that is STILL hanging around, and she is not totally out of heat. I would be furious if he dug in or she dug out while I was gone. Temps supposed to be only highs in the mid 30's this weekend, and Sat. night when I will be gone getting down to about 16. Decisions decisions .....

17 degrees out right now here...just a light film of ice around the edges on the pond as the bubbler must be keeping it open pretty well yet, and a light dusting of snow/sleet is still laying out there on the rocks. Poor fish must be thinking mom where is our inside tank! But they are on the bottom so they must know where to go when it's winter.

your new pond looks great rebel .Just be careful of that exposed liner I had left a piece out in my 1 stock tank last winter and I leaned on it and it cracked .There was ice and snow on it and I should have known better .I just threw a old throw carpet over the other exposed parts .Could have used landscape fabric tripled up but did not think of it .

Thanks sissy, It's getting there but ran out of time to finish it, so next spring it will be finished with the new waterfall and rockwork...oh come on spring sure wish we could just skip winter! The bubbler seems to be keeping a nice hole in the pond open, but then again this is the first real cold day so far, and I got the de-icer ready and waiting for when it really ice's up.

I do not have a heater (yet) but the pond is about 4' deep in the center. It's suppose to warm up back in the 40's after this cold snap with the lows in the 20s.
