Actually Roland is doing great. He's back to himself and going strong! Forgot what it was like to have a 3 year old around ALL the time. LOL He's a handful but a good kid.
Kevin and I found Buffy, She didn't make it. We buried her in the back and Kevin and Cindy have decided to just kind of let it be and not tell Roland exactly what happened. They have been telling him that she must have gotten blown to a new home. I'll let them handle as they see fit. It's sad, but I don't want to get in the mix of how they teach and deal with a tragedy like this. I would have done differently but that's not my call.
Oh, so sorry! We try to have our carriers handy and there have been times when we've gone ahead and crated all the critters [sans, turtles] just in case. But when those storms & tornadoes hit, they are so unpredictable, even when you do have the time to prepare.
When I was 3, I can recall losing a cat [when Dad was stationed in France], and even up until around age 5 or 6, I got over it pretty easy & fast. Yes, each parent has to struggle with how to handle things. IMHO, I would say that for a 3 y/o, their idea is sound. Then, later, when he's old enough to understand, they can fill in the blanks if they choose. Guess it depends on the child, too. I ALWAYS wanted to know the truth, and am a believer in telling the truth. But my son was terrified of tornadoes when he was little. If that had been us, I would have waited to tell him, 'cause at the time, knowing that his kitty had died in a tornado would have fueled his fear.
Talked to my SIL the other night, and she said things were pretty bad. Funny how tornadoes are, 'cause where they are, as well as my FIL's house that we're trying to sell, was spared. I don't know compass directions, but my FIL's house is on the opposite side of Forrest General from the USM campus. Have been trying to sell it now for over a year, but the market hasn't been good. Though not the best circumstances [people losing their homes], but maybe it will sell to someone who needs a new home.
If there's anything I or my family can do, let us know. My Boy Scout son would love some ideas for helping out, and since they're from Hattiesburg, it almost makes us "family."
