This morning was a low of 1 degree Fahrenheit, right now nice and sunny and 23 f. Supposed to get a Chinook tonight and should get to 36f by tomorrow, so I unplugged the pond heater as it is nice and warm now 23 f. No need for pond heater today. :)

Fish all happy and look good under the ice. In the middle pond the bigger koi are right under the big yellow flag water iris, where they spend much of the winter. In the top pond the two very biggest koi are sunning themselves right now under the ice, everything just nice, not to worry.

Bottom pond has the ice shell over the water now. :)

Getting our first snow storm today. They have now issued a blizzard warning for our area. 6-12 inches of snow with 45 mph winds. My 30 mile drive to work could be real interesting.
Bdad we are going to get the wind but no snow, just some flurries. Thank goodness.

Snowing like a mofo out there. Blizzard warning still effective until 6pm tonight. We didn't get the rain before the snow like they thought so we have more snow now. Canopy on the deck didn't make it. The pond is still going strong. Mostly all slushed over except in front of skim box and waterfall.

I got 1.5" of rain last night, it's presently 53 degree outside!!! Supposed to be dropping in temps all day, high winds. Right now, brisk winds out of the south, so I guess those will change to out of the N or NW by this evening. Trying to decide if my Charger will be safe to drive, or best to take the 4WD truck .... probably take the truck. Don't want the Charger caught out in the snow and ice again. It does NOT do well. LOL
Yep taking the truck. Looks like supposed to change to snow around 2 so won't take a chance with my car. Truck doesn't have the sand bags in the bed yet, though, so will have to be careful with it, too, if get any snow. Can get some water softener salt put back there, though, as I always need that!

I got some pics on my phone. Ill have to send them to photobucket. We got him last year from the pet store but he got out shortly after. We didn't see him the rest of the summer. I shut the pond down last winter and drained it. This spring we made it bigger. I didn't see him until this fall after I tore out my skippy filter. I was getting some leaves out of the deep end when he came up in my net. He looks just like a red ear slider but has green for the ears instead of red. He is about 4" big and looks amazing. I didn't have him out of the water too long because I didn't want to make him die from the temp shock. I have no clue where he has been from last year til now but we are glad he is back. My deep end of the pond is just over 3' deep. There is some river rock and leaves down there for the fish to enjoy. All the fish were happy and swimming around tonight. Ill post pics tomorrow.
Neat turtle, Brandonsdad! He looks different on the shell part than the painted turtles I have around here. Their shells are very smooth over the top and on the edge. I, too, had turtles disappear last year in fall/winter, then this spring there were several back! Pretty sure my original turtle came back this spring, but after seeing many turtle "shells" in the yard, pretty sure the dogs decided turtles tasted good and may have eaten him. Aris had this different personality, not afraid, always swam up for food, so when he was gone, I knew it. Have to teach dogs to leave turtles alone, but when the come from my farm pond and for some reason go across the road to lay eggs or have babies (whatever they do), I don't have much control to keep them safe. Snappers do the same thing, but so far dogs have not brought a snapper shell into the yard!

I fell asleep last night on the couch and woke up at 1:30am and crawled off to bed and laid there staring at the sky lights listening to the rain waiting for the sleep to come back and it never did so I gave up and just got up
