For those of you lucky enough to have never experienced a large hurricane. It's creepy.
As the storm gets closer, all of the weather goes towards it, leaving behind beautiful blue skies.
The calm before the storm.
I have now fortified the house as best I can. It looks great out.
We still have another 24 hours of clear, hot, 92 degree weather.
The stores and gas stations are beginning to shut down.
Soon.

2 hurricanes or tornados here and 2 earthquakes .Up in NJ went through a hurricane and the Edison pipe line gas explosion a couple of miles from my house .Night was not night and was so bright out it hurt your eyes .Broke 2 of my brand new anderson windows and knocked stuff off the walls .Hours before the gas stopped flowing through the natural gas line .

Cooler here than normal, 50s at night and lower 60s during the day. A lot of rain, thunder and wind.

Hubby and I took Chumlee (our boxer) for a walk by the lake today and the waves were very strong. I had to dodge the water drops as I was walking on the path.

We still have smoke here but we are really hoping rain will come to us today and help wash it away and hopefully beat down those fires here. 61 here now. I think we are done w/those high temps till next year.

I went out in the yard with a flashlight this morning and it was like I was walking through thick fog.
What a year this has been for forest fire smoke!

Stay indoors and try not to breath too much of that smoke. No physical activity as that just makes you suck it deeper into your lungs.
Now I hear there was a horrid earthquake in Mexico! Is this The End of the world or what?

During a hurricane you usually hear meteorologists refer to its intensity by categories. If you don't know the difference between a category 1 and a category 5 hurricane, The Weather Channel meteorologist Mark Elliot breaks it down for you.

Not the end of the world, but more of us have access to cameras, the internet and various media.

Imagine if we were around for the meteorite that hit in the Gulf Of Mexico that wiped out the dinosaurs, or the meteorite that landed in northern Russia, or the end of the last Ice Age. No amount of Valium could have calmed us down from that, but the world went on.
I think it's just our climate, us humans moving to areas that we shouldn't inhabit and the resulting drama that comes along with it.
We need more education on how to adapt to changing conditions.
..just saying....:)

Yes, someday it will end, and in the meantime I will promote education so people can make smarter choices on who to elect to make development decisions.
The more I look into the decisions made for building development around Houston, the angrier I get. Houston was built on a swamp that could absorb most any storm.
People that did not have the benefit of education voted for politicians that promised them what they wanted to hear at the time.
I think if people were better informed about the reality of where they lived, they would make smarter living choices.

...maybe that's what making me turn into a cranky old git....
