I can't get corn to grow in my garden for some stupid reason. Still have not figured that out. I planted it 3 times 2 years ago, first time thought maybe too wet, second time too cold .... but third time was perfect, still only got maybe dozen stalks, not worth messing with. Last year, waited until it was warmer and dryer, still nothing. Corn I was using should have come up no matter what the temps were, as others had planted it 2 weeks before me. Only other reason I can come up with is that each and every time I have tried to plant corn, it has been the wrong sign in the Almanac. I'm a firm believer in that, but come on, 5 times??? I find that hard to believe, but I sure will try one more time this year, in the right sign for planting above ground crops, and see if it succeeds. Sweet corn typically needs much warmer ground to emerge than field corn. And, one type I was trying to grow specifically said a certain temp which was even warmer than the other types! As expensive as that hybrid sweet corn seed was, I don't want to even buy it again until I can convince myself it was the timing, not the ground that something is in the dirt to keep corn from growing. I've had no problem with tomato and pepper plants. Same problem with green beans, which were planted twice a year ago, with same results, only a dozen or so plants, and I had 2 rows about 30' long. That's not a good enough amount to keep them.
