We never stay down here long, leave when the snow birds arrive in droves. It is too hot for me in the summer, at his parents house, now ours, all the yard work is done for us. The house has survived many bad storms, it is a block type house.
I don't see why not I believe your idea is to set an aqu block in the big and have it so the stone does not slip through the aqua block . this way the roots fill the aqua block. I could see a huge advantage to this down the road as if you had a perennial growing the root mas could grow so thick if it ever clogged it would be a breeze to clean. but in the same respect it may not polish the water as well because there would be less area to trap heavier particles

[/QUOTEi forgot to include a photo of the "stagnate bog" as there is no real water flow through this area the water varies from 2 to 8 inches deep open on two sides and allow the water at its highest level flood the area I have sphagnum moss across the entire bottom along with some reindeer moss. pitcher plants and some misc flowering plants in the summer such as cannabis and cardinal plant. very happy with its growth and time will tell how it will fair over the winter but considering it is a huge moss found in colder climates I believe it should be fine.
ferns are on the radar but they hate being disturbed so much they are a final planting plan. around the large tree stump and running back to the patio. and again growing on the sides of the large big once the stone walls are completed. I did grab some unusual ferns it has a single stalk that comes out of the ground and then it branches off from one point where is similar to a hand with the fingers. it is growing in the stagnant bog. I didn't think it or the reindeer moss would grow as they were both found on rock face ledges with constant water flow but as they say mother nature will find a away. light is similar as its filtered most of the day . water however one was a drip of water running over the reindeer moss while it grew vertically. it's now growing horizontally and while not in the water the always moist non woven fabric that it is on must be sufficient.
Will have to see if I took any pictures of it 10 years ago while building it and take a pic or two next spring. I don’t take pictures very often..... Only thing I am not crazy about is the waterfall filter in my pond, should have probably taken it out when I added the bog behind it a years ago. Hard to hide it and make it look natural.
That might be a few years , like i originally said i had this planed in stages. i still have to install the 1500 or larger underwater storage tank. and I am rethinking the main bog . one of two things are going to happen. i'll either remove the one foot water fall as the bog drops down to the stream as my sides of the bog are to low that would be an easy way to fix the problem . but it's less then what i would like as a final look. SOOOO option two is to pull everything out of the bog and raise the bog one more layer of mafia blocks raising the drop of the waterfall to 2.5 feet and raising the sides of the bog close to a foot. As i am sure your aware that will be time consuming and costly. 9 mafia blocks more 1/8" asphalt embossed 4x8 sheeting , two layers of 8 oz non woven underlayment, New 45 epdm liner . i doubt reusing some if not all the rock will be posible . I hope to salvage the corrugated pipe but that's doubtful as it is completely locked in with rock and it will probably cost more to save then it would bite the bullet. But i would then have an incredible water fall in the rear . A distant third option is to build the 3 foot fall as a stand alone and throw a switch when ever i am home to a separate pump that would activate the 3 foot water fall. but after a few years of this option it would probably cost the same as reducing the bog. Some folks may ask why didn't i go that route to start well my first build and 18 mafia block at 4000 pounds each . And the tons of stone that were required. not to mention the strongest desire to get the water flowing. I enjoyed building this pond so a few tweaks here a few tweaks there to make it 100% the way i want it now knowing and living with a pond ah i can deal with it. god knows we have enjoyed a lot more then we ever thought we would .
I hear ya, being in construction myself, I am the same way. I am always thinking of ways to make the pond more enjoyable or interesting. Same with my bog and waterfall thinking about making the bog bigger and getting rid of the waterfall filter I put in when I first built it. To be honest was happy with mine, but then was watching your thread on your build. It got my creative juices flowing again, making a bigger bog, more natural looking wAterfall. Just need the time to dive into it.
