We are in central Florida this week. Heading for south Florida in a few days for a week. We did do a drift dive for a little over a mile, on the Crystal River, a few days ago. The water was crystal clear. The park service did a clarity test one day earlier. The visibility was 283 feet.
.
The river is completely spring fed. 72 degrees year round. The depth ranges from 5 to 25 feet. There are holes in the deeper pockets, where spring water gushes out. Some are big enough to fit in but, the pressure is pretty strong. Most of the fish were large and smallmouth bass. I did spot one lunker largemouth. There was a few loggerhead turtles too.
.
There were 6 of us diving. The captain remained on the boat to help keep other boats from hitting us. The current in the river was pretty strong. The most important rule was for all of us to stick together. I found myself fighting the current quite frequently, waiting for the rest to continue on. One of my calf muscles is still pretty sore. It was good to put the gear on and get into the water. Our last dive was 2 years ago. He told us after the dive, that one boat the day before went between the dive boat and the dive fag, almost hitting one of his divers. Looking forward to a shark dive in south Florida.

There wasn't much worth photographing but, here's a few pics. The single diver pic is me. Also, the diver on the right.
