Addy- been following the story of that fire. I would have thought that a house like that would have had some type of fire protection system. I wonder how many lights were plugged in to cause an overload. Such a shame1
Still waiting for washer and dryer! Delivery was set for Tuesday, no show. Called and they told us it wasn't on the list so would be here Wednesday. They showed up, took one look at the laundry room and asked why I didn't buy a stacking kit. The sales person ordered all hoses, fitting etc. except the kit. Now 10 more days!

It is so darn sad, why would they leave it plugged in over night. My dad was over cautious, the tree was gone within a few days after christmas esp if it was dropping needles. The lights were off unless we were in the room. Such young kids too.

We have more snow hitting but it should not delay the fridge, we hope, right now just saying a 1/2 inch or so...............two weeks without the fridge. The coolers are now keeping the food from freezing! 7.9 right now. Sunday snow likely, the worse that will mess up is the granite measure then install. We can live without that for a while. Just will be sink less, oh well, got bathroom sinks, will close down the bathroom to make it a kitchen, tape the lid shut lol. Starting today, maybe tomorrow, depends on when we pull the kitchen sink.

Bummer about your washer and dryer. We have to flip the hot water on to do wash, for some reason it won't run without that water flow. Think because it is because we are on a well, not enough water flow to run the washer without it. Even if we have it just on cold water. Thought it was broken then figured out that was the issue.

I am currently heating water in a cooker (no stove now) to do the dishes lol......camping in the house!

19 here this morning. Snow today, Sunday and Monday. Both ponds frozen again. I brought in 7 wheel barrow loads of wood yesterday and hubby is topping the boxes off this morning. Trying to not use the heat pump because all it does it raise the electric bill. Stay warm everyone!

Remember if you have granite counters and there is no plywood base under them do not stand in the middle of a base cabinet .I learned the hard way in NJ and that is why here I had a plywood base put under my counter tops ( learning the hard way was not cheap ).Have you checked the hoses going into your washer because just like faucets they have a screen in there that can get clogged with fine silt .I take all mine off every couple of months to clean them all .

I do have plywood under my granite. I found out the hard way not to clamp an old fashioned meat grinder to the granite! Washer problem is the pump. I could probably have it fixed but the machine is 11 years old and is not under warranty. We have had Sears out here 7 times to fix these machines. First repair (6 month old washer) took them almost 3 months to send someone out. Never again.

Yep we get mucked up easily even with three filters, if you are asking me.

We are going to ask the granite installers about plywood. The slab is over an inch thick, not sure it would be needed. I don't stand on the counters, keep a step ladder int he kitchen. Most I can reach without needing, except the high cabinets.
I have had granite off and on for years, have learned how to care for it. My last house, in az, had a beautiful 12 x 5 foot island , black galaxy granite, gold flecks in it. I have so missed having the counter space here. We will have some with this remodel.

We put in a vent less propane heater, love it, so much warmer than the heat pump. We have only run it while we were gone, set it at 55 to keep pipes unfrozen. I dug in a 500 gallon propane tank, last winter it cost us 150 in propane to heat the house.

My granite was thick also but there was a double cabinet under and no support in the middle and that is where I stepped .Never even thought about it .I pulled a heavy pot out of the cabinet above and that was it and it had a fracture in it .I guess the pot and I were to heavy and stressed the granite

Luckily I am tall enough to not need to stand on cabinets. We will pass it by them about plywood under.
The beginning...............lots of boxes.........

Oooh pretty cabinets, Addy! Can't wait to see the finished product. What color top are you putting on there? I'm sooooo jealous. :)
Look here, it has veins of color, picked it out as soon as we walked out in the yard.

And WE HAVE A FRIDGE!, finally came today, it has only been two weeks without, now need a water heater, stove and kitchen sink.

A lot of work when you do it yourself. Getting the granite done though, no way are we tackling that

The water heater will be awhile, honey does not like the cold, so it needs to be warmish for him to install the gas lines. Baby steps.
