Wow, there are a lot of rules on this flag stuff

Q: Can you fly the Canadian flag below the American flag - on the same pole in the U.S?

A: International law forbids the flying of one national flag over another except in time of war as a sign of victory in battle. The USA is not at war with Canada last time I checked :D

The Canadian flag must be flown on a separate flag pole. If the poles are in the USA, the US flag must be on the pole to the left as you are viewing it.

On the left when you are viewing it? What happens if you walk around to the other side? Does someone run out and switch the flags? Or is there a law that says you must ONLY view them from the angle that puts the American flag on the left? And what happens if some dastardly bastard puts up THREE flags? This could get ugly REAL fast!!

Sissy, I agree with JW. It's wrong to fly any flag above the U.S. flag on the same pole. Pretty sure it doesn't matter where you do it, if others can see it, they can call the law on you for defacing the American flag. Your Country should always be more important than your State, I think that's the reasoning. Just saying ....
J.W. I had to laugh, too, about the flag on the left. I was thinking about the wind. Then I re-read it, and realize it's talking about two separate poles with different flags. I understand it that way. :)

I agree with J.W., Sissy. It is a matter of patriotism, and to fly a State flag above our Country's flag is illegal. If you are the only one that can see it, on your property, you will be fine. But, if someone sees it, they could call the law on you for defacing the American flag, which is pretty much what you would be doing. Just saying ....
And, J.W., I had to laugh about the "flag on the left", as I was thinking of the wind, but then I re-read your post, and it's referring to having two flag poles with flags. Then I understood.
Congrats, Mogsie! I must have missed the wedding, or did you and your lovely get married and I just forgot?!? Seems I forget lots of things these days .... Either way, will be fun waiting for the new little one with you!

Don't worry sissy they aren't gonna come looking for ya according to this site anyways :)

What’s the penalty for breaking the flag code?

There isn’t one. The flag code is an odd duck in this regard. As part of the United States Code, the flag code is technically federal law. However, the code doesn’t outline any measures for enforcement or punishment. Basically, the flag code is a set of advisory rules for Americans who want to know the proper and respectful way to display their flag.

Even if the flag code did provide measures for its enforcement, it’s not clear that the measures would be constitutional. Individual states used to have their own prohibitions on and penalties for desecrating the flag, but the 1989 Supreme Court decision Texas v. Johnson invalidated these laws as infringements on free speech. Congress responded by passing the Flag Protection Act, which made flag desecration a federal crime. The Supreme Court struck down this law in the 1990 case United States v. Eichman.

Can anyone stop me from displaying the flag?
In 2006 the Freedom to Display the American Flag Act of 2005 officially became law. This law basically says that no condo board, housing co-op, or residential real estate management group can restrict a person’s right to display the American flag on their own residential property as long as the display jibes with federal law and is reasonable.

Care & Respect
The U.S. Flag should always be treated with the utmost care and respect. Remember, the flag represents a living country and, as such, is considered a living symbol.Always display the flag with the blue union field up -- never display the flag upside down, except as a distress signal.Always carry the flag aloft and free -- never carry it flat or horizontally in processions or parades.>Always keep the flag clean and safe. The flag is a symbol of us all -- of all America. It is not a political symbol. It is a symbol that each American should respect, for it represents the honor, courage and sacrifice of those who struggled to deliver freedom, justice and opportunity to all Americans.

well i know its nothing to do with me as i dont live in the usa, and i dont want to annoy anybody but in my personnel opinion i am with you sissy fly your flags however you wish, its your land and your flagpole, if they had those laws in uk, i wouldnt care i would fly my flags however i wanted, as it does seem to be a very petty law and quite trivial, there is a guy up the road from me and every week he fly's a diffarent country flag, all respect to him, nobody see it as offensive, so if sissy is flying her state flag above the us flag (which was designed by an english man) then its up to her, how is she defacing it ? not like she is burning it is it , i always say " let people be to live their life how they want to "

Congratz mogs on the upcoming new arrival. We just had another one graduate highschool Wednesday. That's 3 down 3 to go! They grow up so fast.

On another note and not to deminish your joyous news mogsie....
........ I would like to ask for everyone's thoughts and prayers for my cousins ( he's like my little brother) wife, who is in intensive care on a vent, after an accident with her motor cycle Sunday :( She is stable but has a stint in her head to keep the swelling off her brain. they have her sedated to keep her calm. I know we like to keep religion and such out of our talks. But she needs all the prayers and positive thoughts we can give her right now.

Thank you, to all, spoken and unspoken. The neurosurgeon seems more hopeful today. She is responding well to the weaning of the blood pressure meds. And she moved her left arm to swat away the nurses messing with her tubes. So we are are hopeful :) Once she's more stable, they will take her in to repair her jaws and sinuses, and the hopefully she can be weaned off intubation. Jedbots ( my cousin ) faith has seriously been shaken. My heart aches for him, he just found her and they have a 16 mo little girl. I wish I could take it all from him.....
