Funny, it was colder here than where you are, Sissy, but our ladybugs managed to survive. I've been vacuuming them off the windows for several weeks now. Killed a few stinkbugs too, but still early for them. Blackflies are the worst, they'll suck out all your blood and leave nothing but a dehydrated corpse! Actually, I just hate the itching.

Are black flies those flies that land on you and then all of a sudden you feel a little tiny bite? And they won't leave you alone, just keep landing and you swat and they land and on and on? I seem to run across them out in the gardens but not that often here. They never make me itch but they are very annoying as it stings a bit when they get you. I always blamed it on living next to a horse farm. Darn buggers!

Stinkbugs wintered over here on the curtains for our gazebo on the deck. I didn't take them down cause I didn't want to deal with the bugs! The big problem this year is ticks and carpenter bees. Bees are trying to eat my new deck!!

Lots of ticks here, too. We have "no see-ums" here. Tiny black flies/bugs that must be all mouth, bite and hurt! A friend has a large fly, I think he called it a black fly, they are extremely annoying, land on you and don't leave you alone. I'd never seen them before. He lives on the hill with a creek below, and in the woods, so maybe they like it where it's cooler, shadier, and wetter. So far, just one annoying fly in my house, have seen very few bugs or flies outside, but did get bit by the no-see-ums while mowing last time. You look and don't even see the bugger (well, at least I can hardly see it, it's so small, without my glasses LOL), but they sure bite!
I've said several times I will sell my place and go live in Virginia with Sissy when I retire. I think the places are cheap because of lack of jobs, is that right, Sissy? I can't imagine a new house going for that price. Are they built very cheap maybe? Around here, you could not buy the lumber for that size house for 3X that price. And, that's not including all the furnace, AC, etc. and well and septic and road, etc.

Congratulations, Mogsie! Ah, yes.. the patter of little feet.

j.w.; Blackflies are little (1/8") bastards that insist on flying into your ears, up your nose, and around your eyes. They also crawl through your hair until they find a good place (for them) to get a drink of blood. They usually swarm when the new leaves are coming out on the trees, and pretty well disappear about three weeks later.
I think the one you asked about is the deerfly. 5/16" to 3/8" long, brown with striped wings, like to land on the back of your head to plan strategy, and just WILL NOT be chased away! If you look closely at a deerfly bite, you will notice that they actually remove a tiny bit of flesh! :vamp:

I have only noticed a few gnats, ow we have been bug free. The normal stink bugs, ow pretty bug free. Maybe my frogs are just darn hungry and eat them all.

I think you are right Haro on the flies. No swarming just one that follows you around bites you and comes back for more.

thankyou all, yes mirka is very happy and hoping for a daughter, she is having a hard time with feeling sick and she cannot stand smells ! detergent smells laundry, perfume smells, food smells all a big no no ! i think it is just 1 jw, we have already had an ultrasound scan at 8 weeks as mirka was bleeding, so we had to go to the hospital for an emergency scan, everything was fine, he only found 1 heartbeat on the monitor so i was relieved about that ! lol
