oh and also , they don't fly if it is raining, if the wind is blowing hard, which it has been a lot of this spring. One sort of good thing, our nectar season is delayed, the first hive might give us some honey this year, they are getting a good start in growth. The two new ones no way, they will just get a full hive of brood, after the nectar season is done.

I sure never knew there was all that work involved in having bee hives. Just thought people stuck them out there and the bees did everything. I don't remember ever learning much about bees in school. They should teach more on how animals live and grow out in the wild and also how to raise different creatures as a hobby or just how we can make a difference in the world trying to help them out. Do they teach kids in school any of this now?

no kids no clue lol. Back in the old days, it was like that, they did fine without our help, Now they are in a crisis, there is a lot of research going on to figure out what is killing the bees. Home pesticides is one killer, the systemic insecticides. There is one with nicotine that is deadly to bees.....
nicotinamide insecticides The bees get lost and can not find their way home, the hive then dies.

I see a lot of schools are not teaching about how things grow and schools are adding veggie gardens so they can grow and eat there own stuff .They want them to understand where veggies and fruit come from .Look at NY now with there roof top gardens and there roof top bee hives .Veggies and fruit come from gardens and they are trying to make children in urban areas understand where there food comes from .Look at now how many places that did not have gardens have taken empty city lots and made them useful by growing veggies .

Wow, really interesting learning all about your bees, Addy. Thanks for sharing so much information about them. I had no idea you had to feed them either. VERY interesting! Kind of like hummingbirds, they need help until flowers and blooming, and often after they bloom, not long enough bloom season.
It has been windy and raining here for the last 4-5 days, getting really tired of it. Much cooler, too, only in the high 30's tonight! Yikes!!! All plants even annuals seem to be hardened off, so they should be ok.

We go into the hive tomorrow, check out the frames, see if the queen is laying. Neighbor is going to help me since my honey is out of commission.
It is real interesting once you get involved with them. My veg garden is 3 feet from the hive, I was out putting in the plants bees everywhere they just ignored me.

Two Men were out fishing when one decides to have a smoke He asks the other guy if he has a lighter He replies "Yes I do!" and hands the other a 10 inch long BI...C lighter Surprised the guy asks "Where did you get this?" The guy replies "Oh I have a personal genie." The first man asks "Can I make a wish? " Sure says the other man "Just make sure that you speak clearly cause he is a little hard at hearing" "Ok I will" says the other as he rubs the lamp a genie appears and asks the man what he wants The man says " I want a Million Bucks " The genie says OK and goes back to his bottle and 10 seconds later a million ducks fly over head And the guy says to the other " Your genie realy sucks at hearing doesnt he?" The other man replies "I know, do you really think I asked for a 10 inch BIC"
