The Taro I guess is a brand new variety.....who knows. I've noticed a lot of discrepancies with the zones from site to site. I check two different sites with my zip code for my zone and came up with two different zones. One said zone 6 and one said zone 5a. I should probably call the pond plant place and figure it all out.

It can be difficult, let me know if your taro is good for your zone, I would not mind trying one. We are borderline 6b depends on the winter.

Tea Cup Taro, I looked it up too and says tender and only hardy in zones 7 and up. Would do good here but I'm thinking you will have to bring it in during the winter where you are. Sometimes seems like plant places try to sell ya stuff for the wrong zones just to make money. Either that or they don't check out their plants hardiness very well.

Agree with JW. I always double check on the zones from different sources.

I think DrDave deals a bit with Taro so he may be able to chime in and give his two cents.

I've been e-mailing back and forth with pondplants.com and they have been very helpful. So I've changed my order to just the Medusa Rush, Ribbon Grass, Dwarf Striped Sweet Flag and Seashore Mallow. Done.

Well, the bog is up and running! Yay! Tomorrow I will clean up and put some finishing touches here and there. I'm going to need a little more gravel to top it off, too.
That was a much larger project than I thought it would be, a lot more expensive as well.....

Our main cost was the pea gravel, a big big truck load (2800 lbs) Glad you got it done, I think you will be happy with it.

I like that seashore mallow and the ribbon grass will take a look for them next year, but need to pick a spot for it, says it gets big, but can always be cut back.

LOL.......you're too funny :)

I stopped at the largest nursery in this area today and they had nothing for the bog! I picked up an Obedient plant against her advise. I've seen them on all the plant web sites for bogs, but she said they don't like to be wet. IDK

Addy, the ribbon grass says it will only get 18" tall and the mallow up to 5'. I might put the mallow behind my waterfall, not sure if I want something that tall in my bog. I'm having a hell of a time picking plants for the bog.....just don't know what I want.
