What a bummer addy! Is this just for a short while that it happens or is this going to be for a long period of time? Poor little Missy.........1st the allergy and now the stings :(

I think the issue she had before was from being stung, they just started showing up last week a few here and there, that was her first reaction. Now hundreds if not thousands on the beach washed up.
The natives say this happens every time this time of year, the wind patterns bring them from the islands, up the gulf stream the blown into shore.

She started pinking up right after she picked her paw up and started limping and licking at it. I scrubbed it with sand and rinsed over and over in ocean water the net said salt helps relieve the sting, seemed to help. She is still on steroids, just lower dose. We will keep her off the beach until they are gone. We can walk the side walk and look at the ocean instead.

Oh so addy you think she wasn't really allergic to the beach sand or water and that it might have been the stinging jelly fish. Well that would be a good thing then cuz like you said you can just stay off there w/ her till they are gone.

That is what we could not figure out, we had walked the beach for a month before she had any issues. But that week we had seen a few man of wars on the beach, she may have been getting mildly stung without us knowing it. Or the day she got the bad reaction she was stung. She is still on steroids stepping her down, so they are working against the stings she just had. So to be good parents no more beach walking until this mass infestation of man of wars is over.

I've been stung numerous times in the water by jelly fish and I can tell you it is no treat. Never a man of war yet nevertheless painful. When they wash up sand covers them making it very easy to step on the sharp stingers. Poor puppy.

Way to go mogsie, we will cheer you on. I have never smoked, never dated anybody that did, dislike the smell intensely. So much better for you.

Neat about the newts! I have no clue how my ponds will turn out with this miserable cold we are having. I am sure I will lose some plants, hope the frogs etc survive, the shallow stream ponds, I am sure are frozen solid. No fish, but frogs, tads, snails and who knows what else are living in them.

Wishing you much luck on quitting the habit mogsie. My neighbor is trying to quit by using the electronic cigs. She has her real ones that she still uses when she gets too stressed. I have never had to do this kind of thing and am so glad as I see so many trying now after long years of it. My hubby was able to quit way back in his early 20's so he smoked from age 15 to say around 22. I never acquired the habit even tho I tried to smoke them when a teen. Just did not like it one bit! Now I can't stand the smell of cigs and must get away from it fast. Same w/ coffee, tried that when young and could not learn to even like it a little bit. Love the smell of coffee brewing tho. Drinking was different. I had fun w/ that for awhile but lost that urge also. Now just have a drink once in a great while.

I tried to add newts that came as eggs w/some wild plants I found but they grew up and disappeared. Don't know if the died or just went off somewhere...........do they leave the water?

I just have a tank in my computer room now w/ Hornwort growing w/ no fish so I can put some into the pond when it warms up some.
Last night my one cat Spooky was racing around the house like the nut that she is. She came back into the family room and jumped on the couch and was half wet. I went into the computer room to look and see if perhaps the tank could have broken. Nope she must have jumped up there and w/ no lid being on it she fell in and got wet. There was big round wet spot on the rug and a big hunk of Hornwort there where she must have sat and tried to groom herself dry.
Now there is a lid on it! Crazy cat :cat:
