Sears used to have decent hand tools but the power tools were and I expect still are junk. I have a dead 3/8" ratchet that they gave me a repair kit for instead of replacing. It never got fixed and the kit has long since vanished. They should have just replaced it.

Back a few decades ago I purchased there best (gold label) router. Turns out the cooling fan was defective and in time they all fragment and came out though the side of the case. I talked to Sears about this and they said when it dies we would replace it with the identical product while it is still in warranty.

My table saw from them has a cast iron top. The top had over a 1/4 inch dip in it because it was machined too soon after casting. I got them to replace it with a less bad one. I was told it was not a professional tool and I was expect too much for the table to be flat. I was living on credit cards back them. (A sin which has long since been corrected) If I had paid cash I would have and should have returned it.

We have a worn out dolly that I should try returning some day. It did after all have a lifetime warranty.

Remember Sears tools is spelled C R A P S M A N for a reason.

Strange, Howard, but my experience with the label has been quite different. I still own (and regularly use) a 10" Craftsman radial arm saw, and after building most of our house with it the only repair it needed was a new pair of roller bars. It's now 40 years old! A router of the same vintage is still in use, as well as a 3/8" corded drill, a 7 1/4" circular saw, and a jigsaw. The only tool I ever returned (and they replaced) was a hand stapler I used for my part-time upholstering sideline. A 16,8v. cordless drill sits in my workshop, awaitinfg the re-birth of the 16.8v. battery, but the tool still runs!

Hello everybody!! Hey Sissy, I hear somebody used your credit card, that is just terrible, they may have used it to gamble or something.... anytime my bank card or credit card is used, I will know very soon after, as a message goes to my cell phone and Gmail within minutes! You set this feature up with your bank or online banking too. I am very new to this computer stuff and when I started banking online, there was this feature to click onto that set this up for me.

Speaking of new computers, I just finally got one! There is lots to learn and am teaching myself, just stumbling and bumbling as I go.... Say goodby to the little tablet with little screen, as it does very little when compared to this ASUS Notebook model S56C, which features windows 8, last time I used Windows was like in 1999 or something, when I was still in the army. Back then things were much different for sure!!!

Hey now I can have things jumping on my screen too!! :boldblue: :afro: :fechten2: :goldfish: :lamp5: :salook: :nananananana:

Sissy, my dad had a Craftsman table saw, the one way back when it was in a closed in stand. He had it to his dying day, some 50 years later. I got my former husband a 10" Craftsman table saw, not the best model, but not the cheapest either, when we got married, and he still had it when we divorced, 24 years later. It went on the job with him, as it was easier to move around than his larger one that he kept in his shop. He's a builder, by the way, so it gets plenty of use. I love Craftsman tools, they are all lifetime warranty, but then about 5 years ago (or maybe 10) they started making cheaper stuff, only had shorter warranty.
HTH, you're absolutely right! That 4 way chuck went up to 1/2" and that 1/2" is what I needed, but it didn't work worth crap. I got a new one today, just the 1/2" size, all metal (the other one had black paint that scraped off when using it) and it was the same price as the 4 way. Tried it out, and it worked perfectly! I was beginning to think it was just me, that I could not tighten that drill correctly! Wow, using good tools makes all the difference in the world.
I bought a Makita 10" miter saw for $30 at the auction I got the windmill. The son said that the blade on it was worth more than that. My former husband always bought Makita brand power tools, said they lasted the longest for the price. We shall see now how long it takes for me to buy trim and retrim my house ... or at least get the sliding glass door trimmed! It's been on for 2 summers now. :blueflower:

Some of the decades old sears power tools are decent. I still have the table saw which Sears sold for years, it is now being sold under the rigid name at home depot.

Forgot the pad sander from Sears that vibrates so too much to use..

In the late 70s I bought a Craftsman Mechanic toolset which I still have.

I am not alone in this. Google 'CrapsMan'

I am thinking sears maybe one of those stores on the way out they closed a couple of them here and opened small satellite stores .I had one of there ride on mowers at my other house and left it for new owners .Every time it needed a new part it seemed to always be on back order and would take days or weeks to get .More trouble than it was worth and bought my troy built pony and darn thing is still going strong m but it is not made to mow 3 acres and I only do a little at a time .It also does not have the rollers on the deck and is a 38 inch deck

I totally agree, nothing is made like it used to be. You used to be able to buy large appliances (fridge, washer/dryer, stove, etc.) once and have them for 30 years or more. Not anymore. If you have those appliances for 10 years, you're doing well. That's why I chose to fix my 30+ year old (when I had it fixed 3 years ago) Maytag washer. The guy said it will probably run another 30 years now. People these days want new and shiny, too, sometimes what they have is perfectly good, they just want what is new on the market. Lots of electronics are made to last a very short time. TV's, DVD's, microwaves .... they are all becoming either so cheap (microwaves) or they get so much more advanced in a few years (TV's) that people are throwing them into the trash. I had a microwave for only a year, fuse went bad on it, but to fix it would have cost more than a brand new one at ... $40. There is definitely something wrong with that! I guess we want cheap, and that's what we are getting!
