So Lou you really did have the African bees? If so you are lucky you didn't have a run in w/ them! Glad they are leaving for the big bee Heaven in the sky! Gosh make sure there is no way for anymore to get in there again. Oh it gives me the shudders thinking what they could do to you after that one news story about that poor man!
Yes they were African bees. Sunny (cat) and I have been restricted to the house for three days. Learned last night there are more of these bees in N Texas this year than in a decade. The fun continues......LOL

So the garden is the one place we can all have the last word :) I like that.

I have been using 2K gallons of water a week to change the lift setup that is holding every fish I own. Talk about having all your eggs in one basket. Anyway I was worried about the cost in that my wife takes care of bill paying. Anyway the nice lady at the city desk informed me that we pay $1.89 per 1000 gallons once we exceed the water included in the basic fee.

It is not like I could change what I am doing but it is good to know what it is costing.

If such greater usage happens to fall within the months when your basic average is calculated then your future basic fee could rise. My wife works in our cities water department so she watches our usage like a hawk. Good luck!

They don't know it yet but I just fired the contractor that was to seal open siding. This is an urgent job and he was told so. Worker did not show up possibly due to rain last night but had sunshine during his set 7:30 AM appointment and for the next three hours. He did not call to reschedule. In fact, he turned his phone off (not accepting calls message). I waited four hours then called owner. No answer. Left message classifed urgent. No response to message. Back to yesterday. Worker called yesterday to confirm appointment. During the conversation he did not like my suggestion that he look over the job before deciding how to do job and pre-purchachacing materials which I would be added to the bill. He went on to say he needed to get my project over quickly so he could move on to other appointments. Nothing really wrong with that statement. To my shock though he said the job would cost $125 and could I afford that amount!

This company is/was putting a quote for siding replacement and painting including existing whole house trim. The owner also was going to be asked to quote building two new decks and walkways in backyard. He will lose all of these opportunities over poor communication and customer service skills. Young and not wise in business management.

Joined Angie's List this afternoon. Have another company coming out today or in the morning to scope out the urgent tasks.

You have had the worst luck with contractors Lou. Hopefully Angie's list will get you someone who actually wants to work.

Worked on digging the flat pond deeper today so we don't have to keep putting pipes, boards and rock under the edge of the liner to shore it up. Far form done but good progress.

Got in trouble with the 1000+ setup the fish are temporarily in. Had been testing just ammonia and figured twice weekly major changes were doing the job. Ammonia was ok but my nitrite kit had died of old age so I ordered one which came today. Tested the water about 8:30PM and the nitrites were off the scale. It takes about 3 hours to do a major water change, mostly because I am using a garden hose between the water aging container and the 1000+. It slows the pump down. Any way I got it down to 1.5PPM but I did not have enough water to do the last container so I expect it to be at about 3PPM in the AM. I am refilling the aging container and put about 250 in a kitty pool which should let the next change come closer to 100%.

Got a new set of false teeth to make the digging easier :)
