I love it how doctors and dentists want you to arrive early then whey you ask how long the wait will be they look at you funny.
Ive complained about this in the past, but now that you just said that, I just realized all my recent appointments, I have been seen AT my time of appointment, including today. Today was a medical doctor, but thinking about my dentist, I dont think I have ever waited more than 5 minutes or so for him either, and I even remember the receptionist appologizing for the delay.

I really don't mind a doctor running behind if it is because he is taking the time to give quality care. This is with the assumption that when I get my turn he will take the time he needs to do a good job for me too. What bugs me is when the person at the front desk acts like I should just sit down, shut up and wait my turn not knowing when that will be.

While having wifey take a head shot for my avatar use she told me that I never smile. After many attempts I discovered it is almost impossible for me to muster up a really good smile even when I am very happy. To be realistic my emtiophrases will follow suit. Look at my avatar to see what passes as my smile.

I think it is down here that I don't speak like they do and seems they all know each other .Hate to say but it comes down to the way I felt when I walked in as the girl did not realize I could hear her and she said she is white .Oh well

I was thinking a lot about this subject last night, and have to say I have been really lucky with my doctors.

Yesterdays appointment went great. For continued/but now temp pain management, he wanted to give me 50 mg Tramadol ... told him I wanted TEN 5 mg Oxicodone to cover me til surgery (he was willing to schedule immediately, but I want to wait til Fall, better timing for me to be down), and there were no arguements. Love this doctor, but so hard to get an appointment with him. Been seeing his partner, but he made it clear to me yesterday, if I would prefer him, I can see just him. I really like his partner, except for medication issues. He keeps giving me 30 mg Oxicodones (feel like a drug addict cutting them smaller), when I only want 5 mg. I dont care what the BOOKS say the typical med is, if I want LESS, why does it need to be an issue?

The last BAD experience I had was a referral to an ortho specialist in 2007. I didnt like the receptionist one bit, then waited and waited ... finally saw the doctor, and while he may have been one of the best, I made an appointment elsewhere for a second opinion. I knew the DX was correct, I just didnt like him ... the doctor for the second opinion (another ortho specialist) was awsome, and I would happily give him positive referrals. He knew his field, was personable, and didnt fight me on MY CHOICE of treatment (I refused surgery, I didnt want a "quick fix" I wanted to HEAL and was willing to wait it out to heal RIGHT).

I dont have a real GP or Primary Care doctor ... In 2009, when my other shoulder went (Frozen Shoulder), my ortho was on day 1 of his vacation ... I needed pain meds to get me through til he got back, so went to one of the walkin clinics. I absolutely loved the doctor I saw. He asked me a LOT of questions, starting with how I made a self DX of frozen shoulder since it can be difficult to DX (often confused with bicep tendonitis or a torn rotator) ... Explained the history with the other shoulder, PT, etc and what I had been previously prescribed and told him he was welcome to call my doctors office to confirm he was on vacation and about my medical history. I liked him so much (he shared my views of how screwed up manage care was, he was an ER doctor for 20 yrs before opening the clinic 20+ yrs earlier) ... I asked him if I could list him as my primary care doctor, but said I couldnt, because then he would be responsible for ordering papsmeers, etc, but could refer me to another doctor in the office ... I declined, explaining the point was I wanted HIM ... So the agreement we can to is he is UNOFFICIALLY my primary care doc. If I need an antibotic or am required to get a referral, just come to him, and he'll fill in whatever gaps I need. I really love this doctor. I am going to be so screwed when he retires.

I was the first appointment so how could he be running late .9 am is his first appointment time .Believe me when I say the office and the building were really not the nicest ,but I never try to judge on that as he could have been a great dentist ,but not with me .I won't be going back and told my insurance company that .I just told them about the waiting time and the doctors attitude and nothing else .It was clean office but not very appealing to visit .

Frankly, I see a missing filling as an emergency appointment. To me, a no brainer, fix the emergency, and then address whatever else. If they couldnt handle that, I dont know what else to say, other than you did the best YOU could with them. This is exactly how I met my present dentist, and I love him. I knew I was overdue for a cleaning, but hated the dentist I was seeing (arrogant), and hadnt gotten around to finding another yet. I have plastic in one of my upper front teeth (not THE front teeth, but one next to them) ... dont know how, but in my sleep, I had stretched my jaw ... vaguely remember doing it ... and sheered the side of the tooth right off (filling and part of the actual tooth) and woke right up with the chunk still on my tongue. Hit the phone book at 9 am, and got an appointment for the next day. He took a single xray of the tooth that needed the work, fixed the tooth, and afterwards, told me to make another appointment for the cleaning I needed, and full xrays.

I guess I will see the new doctor as this guy just put in a temporary filling and the cost to me was 73 dollars for that .I can't even find a regular doctor down here .I had been going to my doctors office in NJ since I was 3 years old as the office just got passed to the new doctors and I loved them and the office but down here it is much different .They see you and seem to not care .I had to go to my hubbies cardiologist just to get them to send the prescriptions to medco ,4 times on the phone and they never sent it and had to go there and he needs the meds. for his stent in his heart .His life was in there hands and they did not care he was running out .It was a fight and really got to me .Our insurance only allows 3 prescriptions at a pharmacy and after that you get the meds. mailed to you .The cost for one of them is 380 dollars for 20 pills .

That is really screwed up. We only have a basic major medical plan ... more or less, it only pays for a heart attack/emergency care and followup treatments, cancer treatment (but not the pre-cancer tests), organ transplants, and major surgery. Everything else, we are totally uninsured for, and pay cash. We cant afford to purchuse a standard policy, but make too much to get the discounted plans through the state, or at least until now. To "get around" the income limits for the state discounted plans, we have to have more than $5000 in medical bills within the last twelve months. I cant imagine the hassle of waiting for meds in the mail. Now I understand why one of my doctors offered a 20% discount to cash paying patients.
