I took a piece of 3/4" pvc about 12" long and just shoved the ends in that held it together well. I also took the left over piece of noodle and put it in the middle of the noodle circle to give the middle more buoyancy. I can take some pics later if you are interested.

Nice idea! I can visualize it, thanks! Have you seen the floating islands that they sell for $200 to $300? Would like to see how they make them...

swimming noodles are just too big and you just cant hide 'em....at least go to ACO or ACE, any hardware store and get the pipe insulation, its dark grey, almost black & comes in different sizes...the half inch is like $2.79 for 5 peices 3' long.and the size you buy is the size tubing to join it together.

baeya; just thinking about your island idea. If the fish are nibbling at the foam, we need to protect it somehow. Take a large plastic bag, lay it on its side, and spray a thin layer of foam inside. Place appropriately sized flower potson top of the bag and finish foaming inside the bag. The pots can be pushed into the foam to make planting pockets, and excess plastic can be trimmed off, with the ends being pushed into the foam to fold them in place. It would take longer for the foam to dry, but what the heck.... you have until next spring! Keep in mind that I haven't actually tried this, but it seems to me it could be done. John

a little tip for anybody building a pond that is big enough that they may occasionally have to wear shorts and get in every now and then to trim plants etc, make your pond bottom flat and not sloped down towards the deep end like i have, as this is very slippery and will lead to total submergance as i discovered yesterday, i think i was more concerned about knocking my plants over than me going under !! lol

Laughing mogsie..........that is why I like my liner, the ppl, it does not get slippery, I am in the pond every other week or so trimming the lilies.
My deck pond, not even deep, stepped in it once and almost went down, it is epdm, that stuff is like smooth ice.

Baeya, if you are going to tie the fiberglass or plastic screen stuff to the pvc, insulation tube or whatever you can use zip ties or I have used strong fishing line using a large sewing needle and wrapping the line around and around the tubing. Zip ties are quicker but you can't see the fish line. To hold them together you can actually buy plastic fittings for the ends of the tubing and the insulation pipes in the irrigation or plumbing section in the hardware stores. They fit nicely right into the holes of the tubes and have different sizes.

Mogsie that liner I know is slippery........almost went down a few times myself. This is where the stationary video camera setup comes in quite handy for other pond viewers to be entertained by

jw i dont plan on repeating it lol, mirka said i had a funny smell when i got back out !!

if you could protect the expanding foam from the fish nibbling at it i suppose you could make a miniature natural looking island with clever planting and choice of plants ! hmmm got me thinking now ! lol

I always send my wife in so I can pull her out, I did the same thing as Mogsie and made a slope at the one end. Won't do this next time.

I used Koiguys instructions.....Thank You, Koiguy! I will probably try to make one of those other islands next year, after I make my bog of course! Still waiting for all my bio media to come in the mail....hopefully tomorrow.

They are in my lotus tub, I have some wood for climbing out, but the water is low so if they don't find the wood they won't get out.
so........ try to get them out, or raise the water level, or wait till they grow a tiny bit or if get them out, put in bog, or small fish less pond or on the land or or or lol,

Wow they are teensy little buggers and cute as a button!
They sure have big heads compared to their bodies.
Now tell me this do frogs grow bigger or do they just stay the same size for the type of frog they are?
