Nope, not keeping him, JW, but got tired of calling him "dog". LOL He was very timid when he first arrived, both toward me and the other dogs. I have not raised my hand as if to hit, but when I shook out the rug on Sunday, I watched his reaction, as he was very close to me, but kept reassuring him it was ok. He was afraid, but held his ground once he heard my soothing words. I will have him checked for a microchip before he is neutered. The vet's office can do that. I just hate to drive him to town just to have him checked for microchip. Yes, you're so right, it is VERY possible he could have been someone's dog and wandered away to save himself! That's why I'm not going to hurry to get him neutered tomorrow. I think I should give a person at least a week to find the ads and find him again, if he is lost that is.
Sissy, I can sure see where they are a devoted breed. He has not left my side since I brought him inside this evening with the other dogs. The others have gone to lay on their blanket and bed, Barney is laying right next to my chair. He has become very devoted already, so that's a good thing, he can learn to change to the circumstances of a new family.
I would not have a problem putting him in a home, if someone truly wants a pit bull and wants one that is friendly. If they want one to be a watch dog, and bite people, he's not for them. He is afraid of Grace, my cat, kind of like Arthur is with your Pee Wee. He follows her around, but she is not afraid of him at all. The cats in the barn come up to him, too, so they already know he is not to be feared, which is a good thing.
