Cathy is blushing!

About the Burr Oak -
Quercus macrocarpa, the Bur Oak, sometimes spelled Burr Oak, is a species of oak in the white oak section Quercus sect. Quercus, native to North America in the eastern and midwestern United States and south-central Canada. This plant is also called Mossycup oak and Mossycup white oak.

It occurs from the Appalachian Mountains west to the middle of the Great Plains, extending to central Texas, across southernmost Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec, east to the Atlantic Coast in southern New Brunswick and down the coast to Delaware.
It is a large deciduous tree growing up to 30 m (100 ft), rarely 37 m (120 ft), in height, and is one of the most massive oaks with a trunk diameter of up to 3 m (10 ft); reports of taller trees occur, but have not been verified. It is one of the slowest-growing oaks, with a growth rate of 30 cm (1 ft) per year when young. A 20-year-old tree will be about 6 m (20 ft) tall. It commonly lives to be 200 to 300 years old, and may live up to 400 years. [1] The bark is a medium gray and somewhat rugged.

The leaves are 7–15 cm (3–6 in) long and 5–13 cm (2–5 in) broad, variable in shape, with a lobed margin. Most often, the basal 60% is narrower and deeply lobed, while the apical 40% is wider and has shallow lobes or large teeth. The flowers are greenish-yellow catkins, produced in the spring. The acorns are very large, 2–5 cm (0.8–2 in) long and 2–4 cm (0.8-1.5 in) broad, having a large cup that wraps much of the way around the nut, with large overlapping scales and often a fringe at the edge of the cup.

Bur Oak is sometimes confused with Overcup oak and White oak, both of which it occasionally hybridizes with.

Thanks to all the Veterans and soldiers of our world! Today is a day to recognize them for their bravery and their time and strength they have given so that we can be free and live safely. My son is my favorite Veteran, followed by two nephews who have spent time (or are spending time) in the military systems. Thanks you all Veterans, for keeping us free!!!

Nice one Country, I had a Grandfather in WW2[lived] and a Great Grandfather in WW1[died], the poisen gas got him.

Another group on my hit list, insurance companies. They like taking money but to pay it out is like getting water from a stone. Sis, tell him not to give up without a fight.

Hope everything turns out good for you and the family. You are one of the nicest most helpful members at this forum!!

Ok enough Obama loving. He sounds good to us outside USA, but we don't really have much idea about it. Only people in USA can say good or bad.

Wayne, at this point, since Obama is our president for another 4 years, in my opinion, no one should be bashing him any longer. That would be disrespect for our Country, wouldn't it? Time to make comments about what he plans to do with those years, and let our senators, congressmen/women and representatives know if we approve or disapprove. That's how our government works. One man does NOT run our country, he simply has the final say is most situations, although not all, and sometimes his view can be thrown out as well. Ahhh ... no wonder I hate politics. LOL

wow that is some nut ,and ouch if it falls on your head .Well insurance companies will fight for every penny they want for themselves and try not to pay out .I contacted them and also called the BBB on them .Allstate insurance I gave up because of unfair practices .They pay out tons to advertise themselves but when they have to pay out a claim they fight tooth and nail .By the looks of it my son may win the battle as the policy has no 30 day wait written on it anywhere .They are claiming he must have lost the paper it was written on but all the page numbers match up .

Already in the planning stages of the next pond ,this will have native cold water fish. I am finding that this may be a challenge, as far as aggressiveness and hardiness goes. But I'm getting there, surprisingly there are more than I thought. Anywho, will start a new thread to show progress and types of fish I'm planning on keeping.

This forum prolly is not the proper place to discuss politics but it seems to be allowed and I as a U.S American w/ supposedly free speech do believe that people in this country should discuss somewhere w/our friends and family members what or what not a current or future politician is, has or will try to bring upon us as citizens. CE is right that we should not be bashing him but talking about what he is or isn't doing outside or inside of here is fine w/ me. The Truth is Out There and we should never become silent and always watchful of our leaders. Nothing wrong w/ questioning leadership. It's when we stay silent and become complacent where we get into trouble. We don't want what happened in other countries to ever happen here. We must not forget Hitler/Stalin/Khomeini/Idi Amin Dada/Mao Tse-tung/Kim Jong IL/etc. That said there are other places to talk about what we believe in and want from our leaders and it's fine w/ me if we don't talk about it here. Ponding is a fun and enjoyable hobby here and I would not want to jeopardize being able to continue on doing so in a friendly manner. If someone asks me something tho I will answer my true feelings. I myself will try to say things in a respectful but honest answer. Bashing just makes people upset............well even talking about it makes some upset but like I said it is a free country w/ free speech still isn't it? Don't become complacent!I just don't want to see our good country go down the tubes and see us all have no say in anything anymore and believe me it's heading that way but that's just my opinion. Back to fishing :)

My friends and acquaintances are all over the board politics wise. In Mr. Obama's first election I was far too vocal. Being extreme only hurt me health wise. Since then I still enjoy studying politics and politicians yet go about such in a milder manner.

My FB statement posted soon after the election results were announced.

"To All,
Even though I and millions of others voted for Governor Romney America has spoken. President Obama is clearly America's choice and deserves everyone's congratulations. Cathy and I honor our country, our President and Commander-In-Chief. President Obama now needs and has our unwavering support. Our government along with our country must find a way to work together. As dedicated, passionate Americans we know there is a tremendous amount of work ahead to improve our country in a manner that is best for all citizens.

God bless America and God bless you."

Sissy, it's OK, the pond is in the process of "feeding itself" and Angie may have had to "thin out the crowd"! It happens in my pond all the time, I get lot a of babies in the summer, then one by one they disappear, until only the fastest and healthest are left. It's called "natural selection", and Angie was just doing your a favor, now there is less to care for and less to clean up after, so it,s all good! C:

I was just getting to like the babies as I could see they had personaliies if that is possible .I always try to keep my calm and roll with the punches and turn my back and walk away .I guess this has made me open my eyes a little and see there is good and bad in everything .I think Mike and tesia were worried if something happened I would pack up and move back to NJ and may still one day .I let them know it would have nothing to do with the house I bought for them or the interest free loan for it ,They are still my friends no matter where I live .I just hope the economy improves for everyone. The doctor told me I am to calm ,cool and collective and he wished more people were like that in these cases as it helps the patient more .

It is good that you can be so strong, but don't forget to take good care of yourself too, cause the extra stress is very hard on the body and can wear you down, I feel worn out these days.... like I have been drained, after my husbands ordeal, I feel now like I am recovering too "with him"!

I agree wholeheartedly with Colleen, Sissy you need to take very good care of yourself, as far too many others depend on you, both human and animal! But, it's the way you love it, you are a caretaker, and a happy one at that! Life IS too short, embrace and enjoy everyone!!
Addy, I cannot imagine working in a trauma center. After my daughter's bad 4 wheeler accident, I hope to never have to visit an ICU room for family member again. I was very strong, never faultered that she would get better, and she did. Others in her dad's side of the family just worried what might happen! Keep your chin up, keep positive thoughts going, and things will work out for the best! They always do. :)
VERY well said, JW. Yes, people need to keep voicing their opinions on issues that our Country is changing or attempting to change, and make your feelings heard. Absolutely! Don't lay down and die, we are all in this together for sure!
Fishy, please let us know your new thread about your new cold water fish pond. I'll want to watch that one, too!
