Really neat how they are doing that, Mogsie, and paying to have it done to boot! Around here, the gas and electric companies give you a "rebate" or discount on your electric bill if you buy energy efficient appliances. I would love to put up a windmill, since I have nothing around me to STOP the wind, and sell that energy back to the electric company, but I think they take something like 20 years to pay for themselves, and then they are probably falling apart and need to be replaced. :) My furnace is high efficiency but my fridge and stove are VERY old, probably close to 30 years old or maybe more, so they are sucking the electricity big time. Maybe next year ...

yes people over here with solar panels sell their spare electricity bo the national grid, well it is now 1 o clock in the morning and ive been sitting out in the garden watching for the aurora borealis, as it is extending further south due to some max activity on the sun, was plenty last night but now it has clouded over, will stay up for 1 more hour see if the cloud clears, quite cold in the garden

I see your house is coming alond nicely mogsie and we get rebates here on energy wise products and better insulation .I wanted to get a wind turbine but figure no use in investing more in this house I am not going to get back .New fridge and range are really energy efficient and figure that is enough for now .They had some snow flurries in West Virgina but that is far from me and supposed to be in the mid to high 70's here for a week or more .So have to mow the grass now that I am back home and boy does it need it .It gets down to the 40's and 50's here at night .I am glad when I built this house I had it well insulated and put sound proofing boards up on the out side .

Wow that is cold shiver me timbers cold .I put in a combo of rock wool and close cell spray in insulation and 2x6 stud walls .I don't like cold and never did ,especially bone chilling cold .Then you get the wind that makes it worse .Thing is I did not want to go farther south because of storms and plus did not want more than 10 hours away from my home state of New Jersey .It took me almost 14 hours going up there this last time because of rain and accidents on the way up .Plus my son was in Princeton Hospital and that is a heavy traffic area .It seemed like I hit every red traffic light on the way there also .

I agree with you, Mogsie, I am fine with the cold, as long as I'm prepared for it and wearing warm clothing. It's the rain and damp weather that I hate. Got kinda wet this past Friday evening, and since it was warm when it started to rain, lots of people got wet. No one thought anything of it, built a fire, got warmed up when the temps plummeted, but now I'm realizing several of us have a tickle in our chests, and wondering if it was because of getting wet. I almost never get sick, so assume this will leave me be as well. Sure hope so! I am not one to want the house warm, though. I kicked on the furnace about 10 minutes before I got up this morning, just to take the chill off. In the winter, I am perfectly fine with leaving the house at 62 or 64 during the day when I'm gone, warm it up to maybe 66 or 68 when I am home in the evening, then back down for sleeping. Love to snuggle under the down comforter. :)

We keep our heat off most of the winter, (central heat electric) the windows in the living room heat up the house beautifully during the winter, sometimes even open doors mid winter cause it gets too hot. If we get cold we have a ventless propane stove that heats up the living space. Love the bedroom being cold! sleep so darn good.

We begin this Wednesday facing an upcoming challenge. My dear wife came home with news that she, along with many others, are losing their jobs due to a operational realignment. This news doesn't come as a surprise since nationwide demand for their high quality products is declining. Cathy has already survived one major realignment. A year or so ago she was the sole accounting department member to be retained when that departments work was transferred to corporate headquarters in California. In accounting she was Head of Accounts Payable. Now she is a Production Analyst.

There is about a 1% possibility that she will be retained as their facility is transformed into a distribution center. Everyone knows the odds of gaining new employment at the age of 56 is challenging. All we can ask from you is positive thoughts and prayers.

Sorry to hear this Lou. I wish you both good luck in the situation.

Make sure the employees have some type of legal advice to make sure the company does everything as they are suppose to under your state laws. That could be nothing.. it coudl be quite significant. Don't assume the company is following all their P's and Q's. (BTW: where did P's s Q's come from? )

Will be thinking of you and your wife, Big Lou, as this will surely be an upcoming challenge for her. Have her think of it as an early retirement, time to look for things that she WANTS to do, and go for something totally out of her realm! Sometimes life hands you a lemon, and it's awesome what fun you can have with it if you think outside the box! There is something out there for her, something that I think she will really enjoy doing. OK, maybe not make as much money, but tell her to look for something challenging to her and something she will like to do, don't be picky, jump in with both feet, and learn something new! Instead of thinking of accounting firms (every new college grad will be going to them for a job), think of someone who has a small business that could really use some accounting expertise with their books. Maybe she can start her own business doing small business' books, payroll, etc.! Could maybe work at home.
Anyhow, good luck, Cathy! We're rooting for you!!! :blueflower: :claphands:
