Mogsie; if you like mice I can send you about 10 - 12 per week! They love my pigeon loft, since there is always food to be found. Just let me know where to send them!!!

Elephant in DC has talent for playing harmonica

AP
WASHINGTON (AP) — A 36-year-old Asian elephant named Shanthi is developing her musical talents by playing harmonicas and other instruments within the reach of her trunk.
In a video released Wednesday by the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington, Shanthi has a harmonica attached to her stall and plays tunes even when no humans are around.
Elephant keeper Debbie Flinkman says Shanthi is musically inclined, playing her own songs that always have a big crescendo at the end. Shanthi also likes to tap things, flap her ears against objects to make noise and rub her leg up and down shrubs to repeat noises.
Flinkman says she doesn't make Shanthi play the harmonica. It's something she enjoys.
Shanthi was a gift from Sri Lanka and is the mother of 10-year-old Kandula.

We have two living inside our house and used to have 4 but they grew up and moved away :)

I guarantee you that if we ever came to visit you, you'd have them inside your house also and it's true they can handle being close to people. They follow us wherever we go!

I'd like to know more about the 4 wrens that lived inside your house, JW!
And, I did as I said I would, and while I was cleaning out my hummingbird feeder in the kitchen sink, and black fuzzy spider fell into the sink. Not a wolf spider, the smaller kind, about the size of a dime. Well, I vowed to not squish them if possible, so I carried him on a sponge and he fell off, had a heck of a time getting him back on the sponge to take him outside, but I did it. Shivered when I got it done. I just do not like spiders too much, but after I did it, I felt better about it, rather than squishing him. Lots of little spiders making webs in between plant stalks. Some are good hunters, too!

Glad you had a change of heart CE. The spiders just want to go on living just like the rest of us.

As for the wrens, my hubby had 12 living in his house when he grew up. Their little eggs hatched at different times throughout his life. They too all grew up and flew the coup!

Hey CE do you know what kind of horse this is? It's behind our house in the horse farm w/ her foal. I know the lady has Morgan's over there but don't know if this is one or not.

Well .... hmmm .... not sure on that horse. JW. The wavy mane is indicative of a Morgan, but she sure doesn't have the heavy body like Morgans tend to. Her head is fairly small, like a Morgan's, but again not quite. She has a higher than normal tail set, which is usually on a Morgan or Arabian type of horse. Others also have high tail set, too. She is not in very good shape, but her foal looks to be sucking everything he/she needs, and likely why the mare is thin. She is long bodied, almost more like a thoroughbred or standardbred (harness horse). My best guess is that she is .... a horse. Not enough of any characteristic for me to figure her out. Another strange thing is that you caught her in a stance horses do not do ... opposite legs forward/backward. That's just weird, or maybe it's normal but I don't think I've ever seen a picture of a horse not in full motion in that position with the legs. But, that's just me, I see things like that. :)
