Here you go JW... There are several different recipes, but since it's just my husband and I, this is the one I used because it doesn't make as much as some of the others.

1 bar Fels Neptha soap grated
1 cup Borax
1 cup Arm N Hammer Super Washing Soda
3 cups of water

in a large pan heat the 3 cups of water. Right before it boils add the grated soap and stir until completely dissolved. (Do not let it come to a boil or it will boil over.) After all of the soap is dissolved, stir in the Borax and the washing soda and continue to cook and stir for three minutes. Poor equally into 4 mason quart jobs and then add enough water to bring each up to the shoulder of the jar. Cover and let them sit and process over night. After 8 hours (minimum) take a knife and insert into each jar and cut the soft soap formed on top. Then take your mixer and mix each of the jars of soap until it forms a soft yellow cream. You can either empty the contents into another bowl to do this, or I just use one beater on my mixer and mix in the jar. The contents will "grow" as the mixture emulsifies. You will end up with enough to fill all 4 jars and then a part of a 5th jar.

This recipe makes a mixture that stays combined and does not require constant shaking which get heavy. Use 1 tablespoon per a load of laundry. Also good for high efficiency washers.

:sun_smiley: My input: This looks like creamy butter when you are finished. I put mine in a rubbermaid tote with a measuring spoon in it. I love it. I also have a recipe for fabric softener but haven't tried it yet. I wash mainly with cold water and it doesn't suds up or dissolve like liquid does, but works fabulous!!

JW - If you try this let me know how you like it. I just haven't used all my fabric softener yet. I have all my ingredients will make it when I run out of store bought. A friend of mine loves it.

  • 3 C white vinegar
  • 2 C hair conditioner (any kind) Suave Refreshing Waterfall

  • 6 C hot water

  1. Mix conditioner & hot water well, until conditioner is dissolved.

  2. Add vinegar and mix well.

  3. Store in a large container (empty fabric softener container)

  4. Pour into downy ball or use approx 2 tbsp in the fabric softener spot in your machine.

GET THIS... BE CAREFUL CLEANING UP YOUR YARDS... IF THIS IS TRUE, SOME KIDS ARE FRICKEN STUPID. JUST READ THIS AND THOUGHT I MIGHT SHARE..OLDMARINE SHARED THIS ON F/B.

**Kids are putting Drano, tin foil, and a little water in plastic drink bottles
and capping it up - leaving it on lawns, in mail boxes, in gardens, on
driveways etc. just waiting for you to pick it up intending to put it in the
rubbish, but you'll never make it!!!
If the bottle is picked up, and the bottle is shaken even just a little - in
about 30 seconds or less it builds up enough gas which then explodes with
enough force to remove some your extremities. The liquid that comes out is
boiling hot as well.
**Don't pick up any plastic bottles that may be lying in your yards or in the
gutter, etc. WITHOUT LOOKING FIRST..
**Pay attention to this. A plastic bottle with a cap. A little Drano. A little
water. A small piece of foil.
Disturb it by moving it; and BOOM!!
**No fingers left and other serious effects to your face, eyes, etc.

Please ensure that everyone that may not have email access are also informed
of this.

My ex husband's nephew was involved in putting something like this into a mailbox and exploding the mailbox. He, along with the other 2 in the vehicle, were charged with the crime and at the time he was a high schooler, and he was sent to a detention type education facility. He has grown up since then, and is a responsible adult, but was always very wild and crazy growing up. He was very lucky, as tampering with a mailbox is a Federal crime, and carries more weight in the severity of the crime.
Also, we all know of dogs that love to carry pop bottles and chew on them to make them crackle ... I can't imagine my dog carrying one of those and it exploding in it's mouth. Wow!
