did anyone see that new google history thing that you can go on and delete your web history and it says so google cannot save your search history and give it to law inforcement .Now is that like saying if you are doing something bad the cops can't get that info from your puter and does that sound right to anyone here .I mean how many people that are planning on killing someone or blowing up something or planning something bad that it is like saying you can maybe get away with planning it on the puter because the cops can't find it .How many people have been proven guilty by stuff that is on there puters .

just does not seem right though .I can understand protecting your privacy but if you are doing something bad online then the cops should be able to get at .That also includes even bulling online that may cause a death or suicide .None of that can be saved by google history if you go on and opt out of the history part .

Sissy, my guess is that it's some scam, and trying to get people to enlist the services, for the purpose of SAVING it somewhere! I would be careful. My opinion, computer whizzes CAN and WILL get into anything that you have done on your computer, if/when the police need to know. Just my opinion, but my bet is on the cops. :)

no google made the announcement on line about offering this option for there customers that want to opt out of history .It was big news thing from google not a ad or anything .Google sent out releases about this offering and just sounded like it was giving criminals freedom to do what ever they want .I can understand some need for privacy but the way the world is today you have to wonder about the freedom thing these days .I know first hand how things should be stopped before they go to far .Now with cell phones and threats coming from them and the internet makes you wonder sometimes if to much technology is to much info .

It's not a scam and I have been opted out of google's sneaky watching what we do deals forever. I believe we should all have the right to keep whatever we do private. I know it will protect bad people too but if we allow everything we do to be seen and used maybe the wrong way then we are allowing Big Brother to invade our private lives in everything we do. Maybe you are a Christian and they ban bible reading in your country and you read it online and do a search for something about religion and you are caught. Just think about it some and you will realize that not everyone agrees w/ what you believe is right. Privacy is a protection for you. You can't let the bad guys who do bad things ruin it all for everyone else who tries to do good. And Google is only doing it to make money! I myself do not use Google search. I was using Scroogle till Google dis-allowed them to exist. I know use Startpage as my search engine as it does not track your I.P address.

Privacy watchdog Electronic Frontier Foundation has created a tutorial for users who want to remove their Google search history before the company's unified privacy policy takes effect March 1. After that date, Google will combine records of searches and sites visited with data it may have gathered about you in other Google products.

Remove your Google search history
csotd_lt_2b.jpg

Google is rolling out a unified privacy policy on March 1. This will combine your data collected from all of Google's services.
Before that happens, some people want to remove their Google search history so it isn't associated with their other accounts. Privacy watchdog Electronic Frontier Foundation has created a tutorial that helps you do just that.

remember that to much privacy can cause more problems than it is worth .If the police had listened my mom and dad and sister would be alive and it all came down to privacy and not taping threats .It even comes down to not allowing cell phone tracking and if you are lost or injured or worse and have a cell phone how can they find you .There is a law they are trying to start about cell phone tracking ,not sure how they would stop that as your cell phone needs to ping off a tower somewhere .What happens when terrorists can not be tracked or there puters can not be looked at .Though I'm sure the feds will find a way around that somehow I hope .Don't want no more 911's ever again .I'm not guilty of anything so have nothing to hide .As long as no one gets my personal info I'm fine .I try not to buy much online ,I call to order as I know it is recorded and don't and won't do any banking or pay bills online either too risky these days .Some one can just drive by your house and lock on your puter or security system. I know that first hand too had ADT on my house in NJ and someone got the security info on it and broke in but lucky me I had a great retired couple across the street who called the cops .After that ADT went bye bye .They got the code with some type of code thing you can buy and used a puter to help them .

Thanks, JW, makes sense. Part of what the site said is, "[UPDATE 2/22/2012]: Note that disabling Web History in your Google account will not prevent Google from gathering and storing this information and using it for internal purposes. It also does not change the fact that any information gathered and stored by Google could be sought by law enforcement."
I tried to follow the directions, and do not see the "Remove all Web History" tab. I only had the choice, when asked to "turn web history on" to say "no thanks" or "turn web history on". So, I assume that mine is off. Does that sound correct? I am NOT a computer brain, so always second guess things when I don't get the same options as in the instructions. Thanks!

You are correct CE yours is already off. But if you continue to use Google as your search engine after March 1st I believe they will be able to track you if you use them even w/ that thing turned off? Not sure if I am correct about this or not. Will find out more cuz I get Kim Komando's newsletters everyday and she's up on all this stuff.
