Every day we get a little closer now to the summer equinox, so each day is just a little bit brighter, and that is just enough for me to get excited!! I know spring is coming, it is always a fresh new start to the growing season, and that is very exciting to me!! :)

Colleen I got my new filters and hooked two of them together. When I get a decent day I will pull out the old one and stick this one in.
Seems like one should be able to do something w/ the leftover top and bottom of the one that you stick on the other one. Too bad they don't just sell parts to those things so you don't end up w/ leftovers.

JW what kind of pump do you use that you will be hooking those up to? My pump just has a cage around it and is a solids handling pump. Laguna max flo 4280gph pump. Wonder if that would be a good idea for me to remove the cage and prefilter mine. I know Colleen uses those and she likes them.

Have a Pondmaster 2400 that I've had for 12yrs. I looked online to see about using one of the Laguna pumps that I had been wanting due to their low power usage but then noticed they say not to use w/o cover but think that is just to protect the thing from sucking up stuff. So not sure how they look w/ the cage off. Do they suck from a bunch of little holes or is there a tube like on a Pondmaster. If they need that cage to protect the innards not sure they would be good for using that filter. I really don't know. I can't wait to hook this filter up. So tired of pulling up that heavy bucket thing I made to put the pump in and surrounded it w/ filter media. It works but is a pain to clean.

The pump I have is way bigger then I need. Have to have a ball valve to split the flow to the skippy. 2 hoses, one goes to skippy the other one just back in the pond. The outflow on my skippy cannot handle that much flow.
I have not taken the cage off yet as I have only used it since this summer. Currently it is in a bucket of water in my garage. I plan to open it up and clean it before I put it back in pond in the spring. Will see if it will accept a prefilter or not. Hope those work good for you.

You can use it with a laguna pump, just take the cage off and attach to the pump intake. It just says not to use without cage as things with get sucked insided pump with no protection. I have Laguna pumps too and took cage off and attached to this flter.

Must rush to work now.... :)

Well COOL as a cucumber Colleen about the pump................not you rushing off to the salt mines
i might want to get one of those Laguna pumps one of these days and it's nice to know you can use it w/ those filters. Those pumps are supposed to be quite energy efficient.

ha ha ha, done rushing off to the "salt mines" and back at my computer desk....

Today by the pond, took a look and examined the fish up close now that lot of the ice is gone. I have come to the conclusion that moving koi in the fall is not a good idea. Two of the koi that were moved from my sisters murky pond late last fall, show sighs of tramma, one has a sore looking tail and the other does not look good at all. I need to also get a better net, one that is soft and gentle. My other sister did not want to be bothered with her pond anymore, she is not "into caring for it", or her yard. I took them late last fall and some where hard to catch. Most of the fish look good, other than those two. We shall see if they heal up come spring. The rest of my fish appear very good, other than the two that I think may have got banged up in the move.

Most of the ice is melting nice and the warm sun felt nice. I was even out working by the pond today, in just a shirt, no coat, and I pulled away some of the dead pieces of the yellow flag, and I seen green shoots!! I sure hope spring is coming soon!!
