Wow, colleen snow and Halloween already? It got cooler here but is expected to go back into the mid 80's again by next week. I pulled out a bunch of floaters to give my fish more room to swim.

Wayne that picture of the snow is from several years ago, just threw it in to remind us the "winter is coming" so is "Game of Thrones" ha ha ha, just love that show!

Halloween creeps out early around my pond, like to play with my halloween stuff early and I must have been "deprived" of Halloween as a kid, so now I'm slightly mental about it!!! I also used to love "Mr. Dress up"as a kid" and loved to make Halloween costumes too.

Halloween is my favorite time of the year, kids come from all around to see my stuff and I like to give out lots of "rotten teeth" ha ha ha! Never said I was "normal" ha ha ha, he he he, ho ho hooooo, I'm coming for yoooou!!! Wait till you see me dressed up as a witch, flying on my broom!!! :) :) :)

Look, I'm already luring little kids and their mommy's (my best friend and her little kid) to my pond!!!

Brought the Tin foil Barb in the house, they are Tropical fish, used to have two but one died when I put them in the pond too early this spring, the water was warm that day, then we had a cold snap early in the year and the water got suddenly cold, and the small one died. Husband finally noticed a couple weeks ago that one was missing from pond and I confessed that it died and I lied.... he still loves me! :)

Brought him in a couple days ago, husband was worried that it was getting to cold again, and it was, nights down to 40 degrees now, won't be long before it freezes now, maybe a couple weeks if lucky. It is not that unusual to have snow in September in Medicine Hat. By October the leaves will be falling and snow very common that time of year for us. Will have to get my greenhouse ready and clean out junk and put my succlent dishes back inside.

Here is the Tin Foil Barb, back in his 100 gallon tank inside the house. He is about one pound and is about ten inches long and six inches high, very slim when viewed from above....

That last pic of the Goulie guy is cool! Leaves are falling like crazy here at the campground too. I was sweeping the picnic table and the wind almost caught me up on it and took me away. Weather here today is cool and cloudy and supposed to get the rain after midnight tonight. Went on a killer bike ride today up big hills and now so glad to be back on foot walking ground and not pedaling my legs off. Cats think we have moved to the woods I think for good. Wonder what they will think when we pack them up on Wednesday and then open up the camper to let them out at home? They really are taking this camping thing very well for first time cat campers.A chipmunk came to harass them today for a short time and they really perked up!

Yep the thing was making some high pitched sounds on and on and would run down the tree and right back up real fast. The cats heads would go up and down w/ the running chipmunk. My cats are not used to people walking lots of dogs back and forth and their eyes get big and wide and at first they tried to hide but now they are taking it all in stride. They seem to have given up wanting to leave and think this is our new home in the woods.

Yep they keep trying to crawl off into the brush and I have to reel them back in! If loose we may never see them again and the campground would gain 2 new resident cats. They already are taking donations for a cat that they found here so they can keep feeding and caring for it. Pretty little Calico kitty that hangs around the welcome station.

Colleen, Love your Halloween decorations! Too cool! I have a question for you. This was the first year I had cattails (Bullrush) in my pond. It is quite tall as I "adopted it) from someone who needed to find a home for it. I divided it into 3 separate sections and "planted" it in coconut liner w kitty litter and then in a basket attached to a crate and dropped them into the pond. One has really taken off, but I noticed that in the last storm w high winds some of the leaves have bent in half. With winter coming, do you cut your BR down or do you leave the tall stalks as is. Should I cut the ones that bent as they will not straighten up. I didi have a section of root left that had a few "eyes" and I dropped that in a pot of soil in the kiddy pool and it also has grown tremendously. I probably should drop that in the pond as well for winter? What do you think?

Sorry, I never got back to you sooner, been busy with "life".....Dear Shoestring, I don't have Cat-tails, I have a Bull Rush, much different. I also have a Wool Grass Bull Rush, (this is a grass, not a rush) Cat-tails have long tall FLAT skinny pointed leaves, Rushs are long tall ROUND pointed spikes for leaves with funny seed heads on top.
I don't cut nothing down till spring, then the energy from the tops will return to the bulbs and the tops will crinkle under the snow and add extra winter protection. I do this with the yellow flag Iris as well. Our winters can be very harsh, so any extra natural winter protection is welcome.

Glad you like my Halloween stuff, got to have some excitement, with everything dead and dying in fall. Halloween can be enjoyed by all, never to old to have fun! :)
